Hader w another save in a perfect inning, punching out Arenado and CarGo. Knebel hadnt been used but they still went to Hader, so Knebel hasnt been given the job back yet.

Knebel pitched the previous 2 nights just off a month off, and Hader was rested. there was no job decision here tonight

Closer carousel in Anaheim didnt work tonite. Justin Anderson had pitched the 8th and was left in in the 9th w a 2-run lead. H gave up a leadoff HR, then got an out, then a 2B and an intentional walk before being lifted finally for Jim Johnson, who promptly gives up an RBI 1B to blow the save, then a sac fly to fall behind. Perhaps Middleton gets the next save opp.

I know it generally does not matter how many games a team wins for closer value because bad teams tend to have their wins end up close. That being said, to get saves, a closer's team actually has to win a game. The Orioles do not look remotely close to pulling that feat off right now.

Keynan Middleton was removed midway through the 8th. He threw a high pitch, didn’t show any signs of distress, but the trainer and Scioscia came out and removed him, so they must have noticed something wrong. Not good.

EDIT — They came out after his fastball, which was sitting at 97 the batter before, dropped to 93 and 88.

Seranthony Dominguez is another guy mentioned as closer candidate in Philly. Dont know much about him but his prospect stock is rising and he has pitched 4 perfect innings so far in MLB w 5 Ks.

philly.com has a post-game story that hints at Dominguez, but Kapler is claiming 5 guys are in the mix. so Neris isn't out, and nobody is in. usually this stuff is nonsense, and he claimed committee from Day 1 and that was bullshit, so not sure what to make of doubling down on something that he ignored for a month.
