They've been trying to get Bautista out of the OF for a while now since they want to keep him healthy. Bautista to Upton in RF is a pretty big defensive upgrade IMO.

Agree. I don't know if that upgrade is more than the downgrade from Smoak to one of the others at 1B. I suspect that answer is no, but don't know how good of a defensive 1B Smoak really is.

Let's not forget Pillar. So, there OF and a DH spot each game for Saunders, Pillar, Melvin, Bautista, EE, Smoak...BJ will get the shaft some days. And I for one am betting the under on 20 steals rest of the way....SD has been running crazy, TOR not so much. I think he's a sell (relatively) high.

I see Pillar as the 4th OF and defensive replacement. He's been pretty awful over the past month.

Smoak is a plus defender from everything that I've read, although as long as your not a butcher over there, it's not really a big issue, IMO.

Pillar OTOH, is a double plus defender, who I'm pretty sure is as close to locked into a position as there is.
