  • Berrios Gets the Call

The Twins are promoting RHP Jose Berrios to the major leagues.
It's unclear who the Twins are sending down. It was only a matter of time for Berrios, who has dominated in his three starts for Triple-A Rochester this year (2-0, 1.06 ERA). With the Twins seemingly headed nowhere this season, now is as good a time as any for Berrios to finally get his feet wet in the major leagues. The 21-year-old is No. 16 in MLB.com's Top 100 prospects. With Ervin Santana still battling a back injury, Berrios could be asked to start in his place Saturday against the Tigers.

Ric Flair is happy about this

Bob- I'm not exactly sure it would ROCK as you say it Byron.. it may be cool, by typical text book descriptions. Your opinion of this is shallow and poorly constructed, but allow me to re-craft your initial thought into something tangable.

What do we expect to see in FAAB bidding?
(Ours is non-keeper league w/ $200 season budget).

This guy is a stud and could expect to be around the remainder of the season. I'd expect a winning bid of 40-45% of your FAAB budget, so maybe $80-$90?

Might be time to give him some more seasoning. Detroit just wrecked him tonight

Nah, he'll be fine...every pitcher gets their tail kicked now and again. With the Twins record, he might as well learn up here as in Rochester.

BTW, lots of fun now in Detroit...game is 8-7 in the 5th and Asmus just got tossed with a creative covering of Home Plate with his jacket. I'm guessing that he thought the ump didn't need to see it...

That was a great argument by Ausmus. Love the coat move.

Buxton is keeping a warm seat on the bus for Berrios.

When do we expect him back? I spent a good chunk of FAAB (see above) and need to decide whether to cut him loose or not ...

This has been a rough couple of months for the Hornsby Prospect Watch, unless the head office is in Western New York.

LOL...well, the Twins haven't made a good decision all year, IMO, so might as well keep the train rolling along. It's can't hurt him, and MIGHT help, although I don't think that confidence is the issue. He's generally pitched against decent hitting teams, and really only got blown out last night. He pitched well against both Baltimore and the Astros (14 K's, but 6 walks), and OK in his debut. I don't know if there's a pitching wizard at Rochester, but somehow I have my doubts.

Anyone care to update? Today is cut day and despite my investment (nearly half my FAAB), I am inclined to cut him unless he's likely to return within a month or so ... can't see why the Twins would do it, their season is in the crapper already so they might as well let him get the seasoning he needs before putting him back in the bigs.
