    Hard: A's P-Norris, Cubs P-Lieber, Padres H-Nevin, Phillies H-Daulton, Pirates P-Smiley, Rays P, Reds P

Ridiculous: Mets H-H.Johnson, Rays H-Longoria, White Sox P-Burns (I'm just throwing crap out at the wall)
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

updated. Guidry's really good year was 1978.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I went to BR to see if maybe it was Kevin McReynolds (based solely on your claim of ridiculous) but yeah, I never ever would have guessed who it was.

                    Rays hitter: Carlos Pena maybe?
                    Cubs: Sosa?

ETA: Wow I hit all three...gotta stop using question marks haha

Rays - has to be Zobrist and I believe Archer has the new pitching WAR record for the franchise after this season

For the Mets I would have said Darryl Strawberry or Howard Johnson (someone already guessed him) or maybe Keith Hernandez, but given that it's supposed to be ridiculously hard, John Olerud?

I think Revo got it with Gilkey.

I think the phillies hitter is only hard because he told me it wasn't Utley, and after going through I don't see anyone who beats Utley's 9.0 in 2008. Dykstra had an 8.9 in 1990. Maybe different scores from different sources? I was looking on B-R.

I'll update the first post in a bit, but recent correct answers: Red Sox H Boggs, Rockies P Ubaldo, Rays H Pena (Zobrist led in WAR), Cubs H Sosa, Rays P Archer 2015, Mets H Olerud

I'm using OFF (not WAR) from Fangraphs; relatedly, the best DEF season of the last 35 years is when Rey Ordonez was worth 41 runs.

For O's hitter, it could one of several: C Davis-2013, Ripken from his 2nd MVP yr (1991?), Tejada from the yr he had 150 RBI (2006?), Mora from the yr he hit .340 (probably not). I'll go w Ripken.

would you like to pick one of the others? (although Ripken 1991 did lead in WAR)
