Profar and Martin Perez are the top guys - I don't see the Mets getting either of them. Maybe they roll the dice on Engel Beltre and his attitude problems... maybe Robbie Erlin is a better fit in Citi Field than he would be in Arlington. If the Mets need another #3 starter, maybe Derek Holland, but he's a lot like what they already have in Gee and Niese. Erlin probably profiles the same way. The Mets need upside... maybe Beltre and Mike Olt if the Rangers would part with him, though he could be a guy who would be a wreck in Citi Field.

Dunno. Beltran would likely net some draft picks as compensation. So maybe if the Mets essentially eat his contract they can get some real talent. Anything would be a coup though.

The Mets can't offer him arbitration as per his contract (thanks Omar!) therefore it's either trade him or get bupkis.

Collins is looking great right about now. This team plays hard every night and despite not having 3 of its top 5 players for most of the year, theyre in the wild card race.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

A source tells Adam Rubin of ESPN New York that the Mets are willing to cover Carlos Beltran's remaining salary in a potential trade.
The motivation is simple. The Mets are hoping that by covering the nearly $6 million left on Beltran's contract, they will be able to acquire a top prospect or two in return. We already know that multiple teams are interested, but this reported stance could expand the field to smaller market teams such as the Pirates and Indians.

According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are "reluctant" to deal reliever Jason Isringhausen.

If true, the Mets are fools. Izzy has been a nice find but relievers are a dime a dozen and if this bromance is true, the Mets can re-sign him next year. Mentoring? For 2 months? If the Mets can get a semi-decent prospect for Izzy, they shouldnt hesitate.

I'm sure this is spin. Either they drive a harder bargain by saying this, or they make Izzy feel good about mentoring Parnell. I have to think they would deal him quickly if the right prospect were involved.

Bigger issue in my mind: Beltran. Fred Wilpon dumped all over this guy earlier this year. And guess what? The Mets need Beltran to waive his no-trade clause. Nice work, Fred.

haha thats ironic but I assume Beltran will be happy to get to a contender.

.....and happy to have it cost the Mets a few more dollars.

The more I learn about Fred Wilpon, the more I'm convinced he's just not very bright.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, how stupid can he be if he got so rich? He got into real estate at the right time. Sounds like more luck than brains to me.

latest rumors have the Giants, Phillies & Braves battling it out for Beltran, who would prefer to remain in the NL. Mike Minor is rumored to be the centerpiece of the Braves offer.

Nice call....but did you think they could ever have landed Wheeler for Beltran??

Well I thought Beltran was worth Minor, and that rumor was bandied about for a few days before they got Wheeler. They're relatively similar pitchers. I might still prefer Minor but it's close.
