    2K15 Free Agent League

    Last year's thread: http://forum.rotojunkiefix.com/showt...e-Agent-League
    Guide for newcomers: http://forum.rotojunkiefix.com/showt...-League-Thread

With Yahoo! having started up their online system a few days ago, it is time to once again try an All Free Agent team. Here is the roster I pulled off the waiver wire this morning. As expected, it is rather ugly for the moment.

    C: Zunino
    1B: Morse, Vargas
    2B: Gennett, Rutledge
3B: Chisenhall, M. Franco (speculative hold)
    SS: Mercer, Owings
    OF: Souza, Pederson, Pompey, Arcia
SP: Keuchel, Hammel, T. Walker, Hutchinson, Hahn, Duffy
    RP: Hawkins, Cecil, Boxberger, Soria

I had the #11 waiver spot, so I had no chance at guys like Prado, Segura, Montero, Norris, Nathan, Broxton, and Doolittle who were on the wire. There were some interesting drops by other teams this morning (J. Baez, G. Polanco, Span, Lawrie, Lind, Pollock, Lohse, Stroman, etc.), so I think my roster could be changing quite a bit in the coming days.

This looks like a lot of fun.
One question I have is, what was your drafted team?
Have you dropped them all already?
Or did you draft that team above?
I saw in a previous thread on this that some people start drafting players that are in the 1000s and backwards, which would probably be an recognisable team to your average fan!
I actually like your starting rotation!

yes he has dropped the originals
the idea is to draft players ranked 1000 and worse - assuring yourself of having a team of drafted players that are not usable - then getting waiver players and making trades

Yeah, I formally drafted guys like Edwin Jackson, Brett Hayes, César Izturis, Joe Saunders, etc., guys that no one in their right mind would draft in a standard mixed league. You do not want to hamstring the other team owners by taking useful players yourself in the draft that you will toss back onto the waiver wire. That would also give you fewer choices when you start to create your actual team from the waiver wire a few days later.

That's a pretty good looking team. Catchers and closers won't be tough to find.

Yeah, JC, your drafted team is a lot better than what I drafted (I don't even know who some of these guys are):

Drafted Addison Russell as he was rated about 1500 but all the others are pickups. Missed out on Soler, Polanco, Machado that were all drafted and dropped but my high waiver killed me. 3rd overall pick was Kevin Quackenbush.

I've been waiting a couple of days for mine to run.

I cheated however, I put Barry Zito as my #1 pick! ;-)

Waivers have yet to clear in my league, they will clear tonight at 2am. So my team is still full of scrubs. However, someone posted on the message board trying to trade.

"I have plenty of catcher talent available, looking for a SP or a RP. By the way, what's up with that crazy looking team?"

I've been offered Santiago Casilla for Boxberger. What's the latest on McGee? I just read he had some discomfort throwing but that it's not a cause for concern yet. Boxberger will be the closer for April and maybe some of May.

I know some people think Romo could take the job back from Casilla but currently it seems to be his to lose.

What do you guys think? Who would you prefer?

Here is a nice Rotographs writeup from a few weeks ago about the Rays closer situation. Baumann does a good job showing both why Boxberger could come close to matching his 2014 stats and why not. He also reminded me that it is not a forgone conclusion that Boxberger will be the primary closer in April anyway.

This post continues our Depth Chart Discussions. In an effort to suss out every team, we’ve divided them into four parts (infield, outfield, rotation, and bullpen) and will continue to break them down…

I like Casilla this year, but I do realize that Bochy will feel empowered to switch to Romo or another reliever if Casilla has any kind of slump during the year. Similar stories can be found on probably 15-20 other teams too (including the Rays), so I wouldn't fixate on it. I guess my advice would depend on what you plan to do with Casilla once you have him. My gut tells me to hold onto Boxberger as he is likely the superior guy in WHIP and Ks (select the talent, not the role). Still, Casilla probably has the higher perceived value by most other owners since he is a clear closer for now, so would likely fetch more in a March/April trade if you plan to keep flipping guys around.
