Draft starts the 13th. I pick 11th. Keepers are still declaring, but this looks like the board off the top

    #28 Justin Upton
    #40 Albert Pujols
    #43 Yoenis Céspedes
    #46 Carlos Gonzalez
    #49 Johnny Cueto
    #52 Jon Lester
    #53 Jose Reyes
    #62 Matt Holliday
    #69 Craig Kimbrel
    #91 Gio Gonzalez
    #94 Yadier Molina
    #97 Brett Gardner
    #103 Dustin Pedroia
    #106 Anibal Sanchez
    #110 Cliff Lee

Out of this group, I am hoping for Pedroia. Some idiot may take a Cuban 2B prospect instead. Kipnis may get added to the list, but that pushes me back to 12th.

Both the top two are from last year's champ. He elected to keep Mad Bum and the law firm of Bautista, Gomez and (Carlos) Santana instead. In 2012 he finished 13th. In 2013 dead last.

I decided against keeping Wheeler and Thor. Wheeler's option rates about 150, which is at the high end of his range. This league overdrafts SP, so I may wind up with a bat and a SP in the 300s. Synderga'ard is too dicey this year and I need the slot. I have 1 SP, 2 RP and 3 P to fill, plus C, OF, CI and MI, out of 11 picks.

I get to move J Fern to DL before opening day. Any thoughts on early season WW targets with 464 players rostered?

Supposedly the draft was starting today. We still have two keeper lists coming. This is my roster going in:

      C
      1B Paul Goldschmidt
      2B Robinson Cano
      3B Adrian Beltre
      SS Danny Santana
      CI Brandon Moss
      MI
      OF Andrew McCutchen
      OF Christian Yelich
      OF Kole Calhoun
      OF
      UTIL
      SP Matt Harvey
      SP Carlos Carrasco
      SP Drew Smyly
      SP Lance Lynn
      RP Greg Holland
      RP Hector Rondon
      RP
      P Jake Odorizzi
      P
      P
      BN Jose Fernandez
      BN Lucas Giolito
      BN Carlos Rodon
      BN Byron Buxton
      BN Clint Frazier
      BN Raul Mondesi
      BN

I traded Miguel Sano to a rebuilding team for Greg Holland. I also get one WW move when Jose Fernandez goes to the DL.

The first "round" (16 total picks. Actually round 4 and most of 5) of the "draft".

            1-Justin Upton, OF, SD
            2-Carlos Gonzalez, OF, Col
            3-Pujols, Albert 1B LAA
            4-Matt Kemp, OF, SD
            5-Yoenis Céspedes Det - OF
            6-Johnny Cueto, SP, Cincinnati
            7-Jon Lester SP CHI
            8-Craig Kimbrel, RP, Atl
            9-Matt Holliday, OF, STL
            10-cliff lee, sp, phi
            11-Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOS
            12-Daniel Murphy, 2B/3B, NYM
            13-Ben Revere Phi - OF
            14-Neil Walker, 2B, Pit
            15-Ben Zobrist, 2B/3B/OF, Oak
            16-Howie Kendrick 2B LAD

Last year the first pick was Joey Bats. We are currently mid 5th round, with a run on MI. At this point, only 3-4 left of every ten in the default rankings. The rest have been optioned. As you can see from the picks it was much thinner early.

I traded this pick, my next pick and my 9th for Drew Smyly and Jake Odorizzi, both plus an option year, with a pick back in round 6 (pick in 5, trade down in 6, pick in 9). None of these players are optionable. That starts in round 9.

Weird stuff going on. Yoan Moncada was drafted as a rental, ie no option years. He would have to kept with one of the three unrestricted picks. I reached for Rusney Castillo, but he has time in the Bigs. Yasmany Tomas was also drafted.

The draft has completed 8 rounds. 16 teams times 8 rounds is 128 players. Due to options exercised, 13 players out of the default top 200 remain, five of them RP and five OF.

The last SP in the top 200, Kazmir, went first pick in round 9. This is the first round with keep options.

I have 56 picks til I am up again in round 18. Such is the nature of the reserve process. Players acquired off WW are slotted in rounds 10-17. I always max out. Four perennially mediocre teams make the bulk of the next nine rounds.

                My draft so far:
5th, 6th and 9th round picks traded for Smyly and Odorizzi, both with an extra year, and a lower 6th round pick.
                6th - Lance Lynn, SP
                7th - Rusney Castillo, OF
                8th - Brandon Moss, OF, 1B, CI
