GPS with traffic updates - any recommendations?

So I moved my oldest daughter and husband to North Carolina this weekend.

The trip down and back SUCKED due to traffic delays.

We have cell phones with the GPS with traffic update technology but it's worthless when you lose a signal.

So, I'm thinking about investing in a GPS with lifetime traffic updates.

Anyone have one and like it's capabilities?

I have a Garmin that I got a few years ago and it generally does the job although sometimes it doesn't catch a traffic jam until it's too late. When I'm expecting traffic I usually use Google Maps instead since it can handle side streets better. Newer GPS models could be better though.
