but, more seriously, didn't we have a long thread about this several years ago? i think it's just a choice, and didn't concern myself too much about it for my two boys. there is no ultra-compelling reason to either do it or not do it, unless you've got a religious one, IMHO. do what you're comfortable with.

Both of my parents and my MIL were very much for it and my mom even said she'd never change a diaper if we didn't have our son circumcised. Predictably, all that hatred for uncircumcised quickly faded away although my mom still tells me I made a mistake.

When I was doing research I think the circumcision rate was down to 60/40 in favor of doing it. My wife left it up to me and since there is no real reason to do it, I didnt do it. I really knew nothing about the subject until right around the time my son was born but I quickly became fairly knowledgeable on it. The way I made the decision is this: If I could have decided my own fate, would I have wanted to be circumcised? And the answer was always no. So then why would I do that to my son? Just so he looked like me? My brother in law has the mindset that I think is very common and its a bit of a psychological protection mechanism I think. He says, hell yeah I'd have my son circumcised because I am. And I'm awesome!

very specific reason why I would rather be uncut? I'm not very sensitive and if I take just about any drug, even allergy meds, I lose anywhere from a little sensitivity to a lot. At one time I was taking anti depressants and I could last for days. No thats not a good thing. Anway, the uncut penis skin loses sensitivity over time. It was never designed to be exposed 100% of the time. The skin becomes hard, keratinized, and less sensitive. Circumcision removes about half the blood or half the nerves from the penis, I cant remember which or maybe its both. Two of the most sensitive parts are removed.

And for what benefit? IMO, nothing.

Agree with this 100%. I can't compare my current sex to how it would be if I hadn't been cut, but I definitely feel a proclivity towards numbness. Sometimes this means I can go forever without finishing (hooray?)... I love my sex life, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer to have more nerves and more sensitivity. Having a foreskin, which contains blood and nerve endings, is doing the exact same thing as viagra, increasing blood flow. How can this not be a benefit during sex?

As an atheist Jew, I actually went back and forth on whether or not to do it, ultimately decided the arguments and evidence were about even in both directions, and let Jewish tradition break the tie. Of course, my son was then born with hypospadias, so he required penis surgery anyway, and we had to wait until he was about 9 months old to do it, so we skipped the bris ceremony and just had a rabbi do a blessing during his surgery.
