"A Riverdale condo complex plans to use DNA testing on dogs to figure out which of its residents aren’t cleaning up after their pets — apparently the first in North Jersey to do so.

In a recent letter to residents, the management of the Grande at Riverdale said dogs’ mouths will be swabbed for DNA. That way, any droppings found on the property can get the “CSI” treatment and be traced back to the pet owners who aren’t taking care of business.

The letter cited a “small percentage of residents who have not been doing their due diligence.”

Management plans to test dogs on Saturday or by appointment. Dog owners face a $100 fine if they don’t bring in their pets for the testing by Nov. 1.

Afterward, any waste found on the property will be tested. Penalties will be stiff: Owners will face a $250 fine for the first offense, $500 for the second, and $1,000 for subsequent offenses."

I live in a condo (am actually going to the board meeting this evening) ... they can do whatever they want to, and attract whatever type of person to their community ... I just know that wouldn't be the type of community that I would want to be a part of.

It's a lot better than some of the stuff the association did when I had a condo. Honest to Dog, trying to fine me for parking in the wrong parking space when mine was where the snow plow deposited its work? Trying to fine me for parking with my car nose 6" over the curb--over the grass? Refusing to pay for damages to my condo resulting from a storm sewer backup due to their rerouting the gutters because one person in my building didn't like the SOUND of water running down to the drainage creek?

I know that some condo associations are dominated by self-impressed, self-important condo commando types, but this may not be the case here. There wouldn't be a problem if people would clean up after their dogs.

When you live in a condo development like I was in, with 60 units, it's not practical to have everyone on the board. From what I understood from board members at my place (not my building rep, who refused to talk to me after I kicked her son and his pack of 14-year-olds out of the pool for drinking), the board meetings were epic in length and excruciating detail.
