  • Sports Bar Fantasy Baseball league with oddball rules?

    All,

I'd like to set up a yahoo baseball league for the Sports Bar, but I'd like to have some unusual rule(s). One year, I set up a league that only had two categories: HR and SO, and had very small rosters. I think 9 hitters and 5 pitchers. It was fun! (Win).

One year, I tried setting up a football league where you had to accept any trade offer made to you, but too many people signed up without reading the rules and thus did not accept trades. (Fail).

    So,
    1) Would you be interested in something like this?
    B) What rule(s) would you suggest.

I saw an interesting format league that could make the draft very interesting.

You select a major league club and you are only allowed to draft players who are on the club or who have been on that club in the past.

So, if I take the Miami Marlins I could draft Jose Reyes, Miguel Cabrera, Josh Johnson etc if the owners of their current team don't select them first.

It also means that players like Giancarlo Stanton wouldn't need to be drafted because he's only been a Marlin.

I think it could really make for a really fun draft and play type league that wouldn't require a ton of maintenance during the season.

I like it, but keeping track of free agents would be a problem. As I found out with my "must accept all trades" league, you can not count on the league to self-police itself.
Oh..and whatever we decide, I vote for very small rosters.

        Hitting: HR's and SB's

        Pitching: K's and Saves

        No ratios.

I ran a 12 team league last year (12 because that is the total who responded, not because I wanted to limit the number) with categories sb, hr, wins, saves. In addition, it was a.l. only and you could pick just 1 player from each of the 14 american league teams. And the same player could be on multiple teams.

We each put $25 in the pot, winner took it all!!

I received lots of positive feed back so I'll run it again this year.

Why not just have 1 category, Win Shares?

I'd be in for this too (that's all of me, not just my id)
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I think it would be fun to have a league where the goal is to have a crappy team. Categories for hitters could be strikeouts, errors, CS. Pitchers would be Earned runs, blown saves, etc. Anyway, if you need players I'd probably be up for whatever oddball league gets set up

depending on where the rules end up, i'd be interested.

How about just steals and pitcher Ks?
