Fresno Bob, if you have input on the airport, hotel, and airplane tips, let me know. I'm going to start some city-specific reviews this weekend and I've already recruited a few others to write some content.

I have a better platform for you. I'm going to be using the same platform for my ramen blog.

I wanted to do a blog starting up my own website, but it looked overly complicated. Are sites like word press dummy proof, or do I still need to have an idea what I'm doing for the setup portion?
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

not to discourage anyone, but ...

I remember a study a couple of years back that showed that based on a review of tens of thousands (?) of blogs, the average number of people that subscribe to any given blog was 1.0; given that lots obviously have more than 1 subscriber, there's a huge number that have less than 1 ...

obviously that won't be the case here.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

If you're really into doing a blog, don't even think about looking at hit totals in the first few months. It usually won't be pretty.
It probably took me 6-8 months to get respectable totals, and that's with a headstart in terms of a audience already familiar with me and an opportunity to let them know I was out there.
I'm about 18 months in now, and the traffic totals are above what I had anticipated (finally!)

I'm doing a blog on ramen because I have way too many thoughts about it and I may as well put it up online. For my purposes page views are irrelevant

Agreed. We peaked last year around this time until the Google Panda update squashed our ever increasing search traffic. What Google giveth Google can take away.

Focusing on metrics is not a good idea but very addicting if you do. I tend to focus more on social media and our RSS syndication numbers to get an idea of how popular the site is.

yes, google has some sort of algorithm, apparently, with a trip wire that's reached if you get linked to by enough OTHER blogs that have tons of traffic. It's a credibility issue, basically. Once I got "promoted" last summer, I roughly doubled my daily average traffic ever since.

I don't know what google Panda is.

Under your own name, or under the blog's name? I have Google+, but have done pretty much nothing with it.
