"Merging has to do with matching speed and the physics of driving."

Right, but we're talking apples and oranges. I think the original post was about the highway driver who isn't courteous enough to move into a wide-open center (or left) lane, even though it's completely safe to do so and doesn't change the highway driver's speed or anything else. He breaks even, while the guy trying to get onto the highway doesn't get slowed up so much - and more importantly, doesn't get rear-ended by some idiot behind him.

That is completely unrelated to an aggressive ramp driver who seeks to force an innocent highway driver out of his lane, even if it would be difficult to do so due to traffic conditions.

Giving a pitcher a "5 game suspension", should be his next 5 scheduled starts.

For most vehicles coming onto the highway I'll move over MAYBE 20% of the time. They'll be fine and can get onto the highway after me, or if they are a speed nut, in front of me.

However, because of the physics of driving, I will do everything I can to move over for 18-wheelers, campers, or other large vehicles that really need the speed they built up to merge onto the highway. That, and I don't want to get squished.

It would never work. The team could just "schedule" him for the next five days, but due to suspension, keep pushing his start back a day. They suspend starters for 5 days to "suspend" him for one start.

People who "wander" when they walk, you know don't go too slow, but don't go fast enough--seem to look around as they walk being totally unaware of people behind them. If you try to pass on the right they veer right, to the left--they meander left. Know where your'e going and GO THERE, if you're in a 'Looky Loo" mode, then stay to the side of the walkway and don't waddle down the middle of it. As I was taught in the military-- Lead, Follow or GET OUT OF THE WAY!!
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

That's another pet peeve -- parents forcing their kids into horrific haircuts. What a travesty. My brother-in-law's brother forced his kid into some kind of longish, Conan the Barbarian-like hair at age 4 or so, made the poor kid look like a complete doofus. Get the kid a normal haircut, please. The other kids don't snicker behind his back, the parents do.

Some other kiddie pet peeves -- please don't make your 3 or 4 year old look like a Crip or Hell's Angel wannabe. Don't force them to wear leather jackets, skinny pants, or wear some out of town team's baseball hat sideways. Everyone will then know you're only paying for day care with state aid.

And don't let a 3-5 year old boy wear jewelry, like wrist or neck chains. All kids do is lose or eat stuff. Why give them a gold chain to gnaw through?
