One of the most genuine and truly influential musicians of our time. He learned his skills in the melting post of musical styles that was Eastern Arkansas in the 1940s and 1950s.
Not bad for a guy who grew up in Turkey Scratch.
His last albums were outstanding. Dirt Farmer is must listening for anyone wanting to explore real roots music.
This is hitting me much harder than I thought it would. The Band's music pulls at your soul the way few others' do, and Levon's drumming and singing were a big part of that.

I tried to pick a favorite song but have been listening to too mnay great ones today. The classroom next to my office is playing top 40 pablum too loud - UGH
The Band has a tremendous catalog - invest some time and listen
Between Tuesday (when his family announced he was about to pass on) and yesterday, the Levon-related content on my Facebook feed was between 50 and 75%. Almost every Band song he sang lead on was posted. As well as some that he didn't.
I know a lot of musicians and music geeks.
