I was too afraid to weigh-in last week after my family was in town for my daughter's 1st birthday, but apparently I made up for it in other ways. Very psyched to be down from last weigh-in and 3 pounds to boot!

Still progress! Hoping for at least 2 pounds this week to hit 20 lost.

Have been researching p90x a bit lately. Thinking about giving it a whirl to jump start a new wave of higher weight loss/fitness. I actually have the beginner version called power 90 which was very beginner/basic and was no problem to get through. p90x seems like a better way to go now. Anyone here have any experience with the program?

              Feb 27 - 254 (down 21 overall)

              Revised Opening Day Goal: 245

Hit my original goal about a month early due to some larger-than-expected losses at the start. I had targeted a 2 lb per week loss because I knew I'd need to be doing this mainly via diet. A severe gout attack, arthritic knee, and wonky back have prevented me from exercising since early December - same problem I ran into last year. I'm hoping the weight loss will help with some of these issues and allow me to build in some activity into the plan soon. If I can keep up the 2 lbs a week I'd be under 190 by the World Series, which would be pretty sweet.

                1/16/12 - 280 Down 1.4
                1/23/12 - 277.8 Down 2.2
                1/30/12 - 278.8 Up 1.0
                2/6/12 - 277.2 Down 1.6
                2/13/12 - 277.0 Down 0.2
                2/20/12 - 276.2 Down 0.8
                2/27/12 - 274.0 Down 2.2

Down 7.4 for a total. I little slower than I would like, but feel like I'm making progress to where I'd like to be. My 260 goal by Opening Day is probably out the window, but if I could get to 267-265 by then, I'd feel great and be ready to hit the spring running (well, actually walking, because running is not attractive for me and very unenjoyable).

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs.

was on the cusp of maybe a 3-lb weight loss for the week, but a complicated weekend made that.... difficult.
but you are what your weight says you are, as Bill Parcells once almost said.

almost 100 pct healthy after a 3-week struggle, so that should help, and I just had a pair of big-calorie meals over the weekend, so I should be back on track for a bit.

lots of good stuff up there, guys. by this point, it really becomes striking how much sensible eating can pay off - and how satisfying losing weight and feeling better is. even I'm happy with that extra notch belt I've gotten to, with more modest numbers than many.

                      onward and upward!

                      wait - onward and downward!

Plugging away. Eating reasonable breakfasts and lunches so must be eating too many calories at night. Should probably cut carbs at dinner like I did last year.

                          Virgo,
You have to know how many calories those dinners are. You may well be eating 200, 300, 400 calories sides with a 700 calorie entree, or something. That will undo all of your earlier-day food efforts.

one of a zillion online examples:

(I'd like to say it's an extreme example)

                          Ruby Tuesday's
guacamole with tortilla chips appetizer, 362 calories
                          classic cheeseburger, 1000 calories
baked mac and cheese side, 570 calories

1932 calories - more than you should eat in a whole day, if you want to lose any weight.

and no, not healthy to eat all your day's calories in one sitting.

if you eat at home, figure out the right portion size.
                          put it on the plate.
                          relax.
                          eat a little.
                          then a little more.
                          then you're done, eventually.

I had to learn all of this the first time around - and if I had mastered all of it, I wouldn't be battling on this thread!

But you're focusing on how to make it work, which is the first step to making it work.

                          Hang in there....

As of wednesday, I saw a 176.5 on the scale, and I took a few days to celebrate. Learned my lesson by the weekend, and had to bust my ass to get back under 180.

Although I'm much more in this for the health side of things, getting compliments has provided a nice ego boost. On this date last year, I was 218.5 lbs. Pretty amazing how drastically quitting drinking can affect your health. There's no way I could have gotten into the shape I'm in today if I was still drinking 30-40 beers per week.

Thanks for the advice. I don't eat out much, but I think eating big dinners or night-time snacks is derailing me. Like you said - enough to negate good daytime eating habits.
