Perhaps the most startling differences between the old measure and the new involves data the government has not yet published, showing 51 million people with incomes less than 50 percent above the poverty line. That number of Americans is 76 percent higher than the official account, published in September. All told, that places 100 million people — one in three Americans — either in poverty or in the fretful zone just above it.

I just had 8 friends that were laid off at my company. Please explain to me how it is going to be their fault for being poor if they don't have a job 6 months from now or are very underemployed.

The "ignore" function can be a great stress reliever. There are a couple of folks I don't have to read anymore, and it helps brighten the day.

Actually your statement is ignorant because even if everyone wanted a job there wouldn't be enough jobs for everyone. There are approximately 4 million job openings while there are approximately 13 million who are unemployed. This is according to a recent finding by the BLS.

Finally, the view that those students are wearing terrorist scarves IS ignorant not an opposing point of view.

Underemployed means you have a job below your skillset.
