Lyric writing don't get better than this...

  • Lyric writing don't get better than this...

    Part of "The River" from Springsteen.

    But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
    Now all them things that seemed so important
    Well mister they vanished right into the air
    Now I just act like I don't remember
    Mary acts like she don't care

    But I remember us riding in my brother's car
    Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
    At night on them banks I'd lie awake
    And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
    Now those memories come back to haunt me
    they haunt me like a curse
    Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
    Or is it something worse


    Who among us hasn't at some point thought about our younger selves..and how much life had to offer..and the dreams we thought were out there for us..waiting...those memories can indeed be a curse for some..

          Gotta agree with you on this one Mith. The last two lines are probably some of the most haunting lyrics I've heard.

          I'm unconsoled I'm lonely, I am so much better than I used to be.

                      Actually what I love is what he says before he sings The River on the Live Box Set he has. About how he hated his Dad and how his Dad wanted him to join the Army. Here it is, pretty amazing.

                      I'm unconsoled I'm lonely, I am so much better than I used to be.
