math question

what's the math to create 5 even buckets between 1 and 7.

I want to average a bunch of 7 point questions, and then slot the mean into 1 - 5.
My results would look something like:

1.00-2.30 = 1
2.31 - 3.52 = 2

or something of the sort.

If I understand the problem correctly, I think you want this:

1.0-2.2
2.2-3.4
3.4-4.6
4.6-5.8
5.8-7.0

The math is to take the range (7-1) and divide by the number of ranges. (7-1)/5 = 6/5 = 1.2. I guess you would want Range 1 to be AVG<2.2, Range 2 is AVG> 2.2 and < 3.4, etc.

That's exactly what I wanted. Thanks! I wasn't subtracting the 1. Actually I was trying to add it in somewhere so that I wasn't starting at zero. Thanks!
