    Some new mid-season shows:

    The Following

    The Americans

    The Vikings

There's also a show about Leonardo Da Vinci that looks lame.

Utopia ... the first episode was excellent. It's a violent, quirky British conspiracy thriller about a comic book / graphic novel that is either hiding some secret message/code or has strange predictive powers. The two hitmen in the first episode are brilliant. No idea how many episodes this will have. Apparently lots of subtle references for comic fans. Definitely recommended, but not one for the kids. You'll need to download this one ...

                  ... and Banshee

Watched the second episode of both these shows. Top stuff. Highly recommend both. If you like Justified, you'll love Banshee ... the convict Sheriff is as badass as Raylan Givens, and the criminal mastermind is a psychotic Amish dude ... nuff said!

But some genius decided to put Banshee on Friday night ... I hope this doesn't go the way of Boss.

Utopia is outstanding. Bizarre, brilliantly shot, great characters. 6 episodes in series 1.

wasn't bad. Starred Mathew McFaddon who I liked in MI-5/Spooks early on. I'll keep watching it.

Final part of the Spartacus saga started on Friday ... pretty epic stuff. Marcus Crassus finally makes his badass machiavellian entrance.

As my wife always says when I watch the historioporn like this, "I bet I know what happens!"
"You know what's wrong with America? If I lovingly tongue a woman's nipple in a movie, it gets an "NC-17" rating, if I chop it off with a machete, it's an "R". That's what's wrong with America, man...."--Dennis Hopper

"One should judge a man mainly from his depravities. Virtues can be faked. Depravities are real." -- Klaus Kinski

The Americans - well that sucked. The most inauthentic recreation of the 80's ever. Until it popped up on the screen that they were back in 1962, and I did some quick math, I had no idea this was set in the early 80's. All they did was park a Trans Am in the driveway and hit the local store for some retro sports gear.

The Following - It's not awful or anything ... but I have a feeling I will drift away. Not really enjoying it. All these brutal murders, a great cast, and not a bit of tension or suspense.

House of Cards (US version - Netflix)

Based on the classic UK mini series of the same name (4 episodes, also available on Netflix or torrent link). The UK version of House of Cards from about 1991 is probably the best thing ever created by UK TV, and worth checking out if you like political dramas. It was pretty unique in it's time ... the main protagonist, Francis Urquhart, would talk to the camera about his schemes ... he was a beautifully evil conniving bastard:

The Netflix remake with Kevin Spacey in the Ian Richardson role is getting very good reviews. 5 star review (Telegraph) 4 Star Review (Independent) LA Times

All 13 episodes are available from yesterday on Netflix. David Fincher produces and directs two episodes I'm scared to start watching ... with all the episodes released at once, I know I'll lose my weekend! You should watch the original first though ... it'd be a shame not to have Ian Richardson's masterpiece as a reference point.

Will Kevin Spacey use Ian Richardson's famous line? "You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment".

Three episodes in ... won't be getting much done today or tomorrow then.

I watched The Americans last night. It was good enough to keep on the DVR and watch next week. That is all I can ask for out of a pilot.
