For those who were on the edge of their seats, the mysterious icon vanished (might've even just been an eventual restart that got rid of it). What I do notice is that my Linksys wireless network monitor also flashes "Disabled" when you move your cursor over it and I don't remember it being in the toolbar when the mysterious icon was there. Oh well, crisis averted for now, but this computer is still on double secret probation.
