Made a bit too much yesterday--Had to use all the fresh fish asap, so went with Poke, Ceviche and Aguachiles. The Jambalaya and Crawfish Boil are on hold (crawfish are frozen unfortunately because my regular guy can't get them live right now.If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

My wife is obsessed with movie theater popcorn. To the point that every weekend, even though we don't go to the movies cuz we have little ones we can't bring, she will drive nearly 30 miles round trip, go in, buy the overpriced popcorn, and come home to eat it.
Because of this thing, she finally did the research for how to recreate movie theater popcorn. She went all in, and bought lifetime supplies of the key ingredients. The first batch came out good. The key is good kernals, coconut oil, and flavicol, a butter flavored salt. It does taste like the real thing compared to the microwave stuff.

It looks like we'll finish that off today (yesterday was the Poke and Aguachiles) and them make the Jambalaya this weekend. I have to say, this Stay at home thing is cultivating my culinary interests. If anyone else has the time (:P) you should check out https://rouxbe.com/membership/ it's an online culinary school which offers a variety of classes etc for about 1o bucks a month.

Oh, and that pick has an image tag from another site, so looks like Gregg was just posting some food porn for us to drool over.

But also, given your combined income with your partner still in grad school, I don't know how you eat so well! These are some pricey ingredients, at least where I live. I'm I flexitarian that recently started eating bivalves cuz they are sustainable and don't have brains, and I have found scallops to be amazing after years without meat. But they are a rare treat--they are pricey little buggers.

The Virus has stopped sale prices in some places, but there are a few places that have kept on lowering certain prices. PLUS as I said, my expenses aren't much at all per month. We've Cut almost everything out except essentials and I budget pretty well.
If the border wasn't closed I could get fresh fish even cheaper, food in Baja is incredible inexpensive. Take the Tequila I like to drink (I haven't had any in over a year) It retails for 55-65 a bottle here in San Diego (pretty much everywhere) In Baja it's 18-24 bucks a bottle.
And we really only spend on food right now, one tank of gas has lasted a month, we're a waste free sustainable living household (no single use plastics or paper outside of TP) so outside of fixed bills and food, we don't have much else we spend on.
And Ken, of course I know it's a joke, but in all honesty, no one needs to take anything from me, if you need anything I have--just ask and I'll share what I can.If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011
