An amazing career, and an incredibly classy and dignified individual. The current temporary occupant of the WH has a lot to learn from President Bush. RIP.

GHWB had almost as much contempt for Trump as most of this board. It's ironic that history may well remember Trump as the better President.

Bush was the oldest living President in history at the time of his death. Should he survive, Jimmy Carter will take that honor in March 2019.

OMG, you have to be kidding me. Bush dedicated his life to public service. The current clown who occupies the WH can barely do the job expected and is the most corrupt president since Nixon. Bush did more in one week than this doofus has done in his entire tenure....well, except play golf. Gimme a break, man.

Until the later part of his life, with all the groping stuff. But as we've discussed before on this, I think it is fair to judge him differently in that regard, because the brain changes with age, and he seemed to do it just to surprise and mess with people rather than dehumanize them or get gratification from it. On the scale of thing, it is on the more innocent end, especially since he seems to always have done it just to get a shock during photos. Still, not too classy and dignified to grab a 16 year old's ass to get her to give a shocked face in a photo op.

Trump is the worst president of my lifetime. History will not remember him as a wanna be autocrat who bullied any and all who stood in his way, and tried again and again to degrade public respect for anyone that opposed him, including the media and the other two branches of government.

I suppose if history is written by Russians J's comment will be valid.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I had never thought I'd long for a Bush in the White House. Everyone always seems to forget Bush Sr was once the head of the CIA, so you know he knew things, and that actions had consequences

The stock exchange used to be closed for observance of President’s deaths. I remember getting the day off when Nixon died. Is this still the case?

                            Yes.

The stock exchange will observe a moment of silence on Monday and will be closed on Wednesday in honor of President George H.W. Bush.

My wife still tells the story of meeting GHWB at the student gym at Texas A&M. That must have been around 1999 or 2000. Very polite and regular guy, and no grabbing back then...
