LATE REGISTRATION WELCOME UNTIL THE OF ROUND 1

    So far we have:

    1 DMT
    2 Redbirds
    3 TranaGreg
    4 Revo
    5 Swamp
    6 Mith
    7 Gregg
    8 Johnny
    9 IntheCorn

    Rules:

    Female artist and album draft

    1. Female only draft. Female artists, or female dominated acts.

    2. Once someone is picked they are off the table. A singer in a band, and her solo output will be considered the same thing. I guess we can be a little bit pragmatic with this rule, and deal with it at the time. Let's please avoid dick moves here, like deliberately picking a band to KO more than one artist (or visa versa) ... although some instances will be unavoidable.

    3. 10 picks each. 1 pick per decade from the 1950's onwards (50&60,70,80,90,00,10) ... 50's and 60's rolled into one category. also 4 Wildcard picks from any decade.

    4. Decade eligibility is determined by an accompanying Album pick.

    5. The album must be an official release by the named artist / act. No live or compilations are valid.

    6. We will use the USA first release dates on Discogs to determine the decade.

I guess the game is to try and get strong matchups. For instance, Dylan and Highway 61 would be an epic pick at a super deep decade. Dylan and Together Through Life would be pretty lame by comparison. So the trick is to try and match your favorite artists with your favorite records, and not cheat with dodgy early or late career albums in order to pigeonhole an artist into a "weak" decade.

    DMT is up!

If you could add one more, I'd love to do this.
"Looks like I picked a bad day to give up sniffing glue.
      - Steven McCrosky (Lloyd Bridges) in Airplane

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs.

I guess this means you have picks 9 & 10.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Always some pressure with the #1 pick in these drafts, but I'll go with the artist I've been listening to since I was a kid on my mom's turntable, and her best album.

              1.01 Joni Mitchell - Blue (1971)

If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

There are actually a couple of people I like at #2, but only one that is truly transcendent.

                1.02 Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul (1968)

Me taking Janis in the 1st round was as predictable as the eclipse today!

                      1.05 - Madonna - Madonna - (1983)

The beginning of one of the biggest media stars ever.

she was the gamechanger for video stars

                      Everyone here
either themselves, girlfriends, wives, kids wore some sort of 80s Madonna influenced garb at some point - Me, I wore O-ring bracelets and fingerless gloves for a while.

Here in the single - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rswx2Z7SDw
actually I love Bordeline the most from that album

also there are so many pop stars after her that would/should credit her influence - and she still has great arms at 59 years old

                        1.06 - Pat Benatar - Crimes of Passion (1980)

In my all time top 10 albums. Contains my all time favorite song in "Wuthering Heights". I cannot over state how much I love this album. Benatar is the greatest female rock singer ever.

                              1.09 - Linda Ronstadt - Simple Dreams (1977)

I love her voice. I love her diversity in music (rock, ballad, country, latin, Broadway).

2.01 - Mama Cass of The Mamas & The Papas - If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears (1966)

As a kid, one of best friends had a jukebox and California Dreamin' was on it. I think I wore that record out.
