  • Time to Hang 'em Up?

Well, we're approaching the middle of January. Keeper trades will start soon in my leagues, league fees will be due, and pitchers and catchers should report in just over a month. So I need to make a call.

I'm thinking about hanging 'em up. I've played 30 or 31 years (can't remember 1985). Met some good guys, had some good times. Seems like time to move on.

This has been the only forum I've ever visited...hope retired guys can still get in.

    July?
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

        Lucky,

All kidding aside, if it is still fun why would you retire? Of course if it is no longer fun why play?

Either way I would hope you would be coming in here often.

Yeah, there's part of the problem. I always think it is July and I keep waiting for Shannon Stewart to get called up.

I havent played Fantasy Baseball in at least 10 years. So I believe "retired" guys are allowed.

I seriously thought about taking a year off, but decided it was still too much fun to quit.

Although i have made a vow to myself to devote less time and take it less seriously this year. We will see how that plays out.

I'm going to be 61 in March, and I simply can't think of what life would be life without fantasy sports. it's such a simple timefiller when I need to noodle away at a problem, or out riding my bike. I can put as much time into it as I want, or as little as I want (staying true to leaguemates), and still enjoy that extra level to watching the games. It's an age-proof activity in an era when there simply aren't that many anymore. I'm not going to play "Call of Duty", or whatever is the hot game now, and I'm just not wired to sit on the couch and drink beer for anything other than baseball.

Consider your decision carefully Lucky, there's plenty of time to mull it over before you pull the trigger. Good luck.

Whoa! Who let the retired guy in?

                  just kidding.

I'll hang em up when they lay me down.

61! I always thought you were in your mid 30's for some reason.

I stopped playing fantasy baseball after the 2012 or 2013 season. My home league folded and my frustration with the direction mlb had taken the game of baseball made it very easy to walk away. I got out of fantasy hockey about the same time.

I continue to play in 2 fantasy football leagues, but neither are keeper.

Lucky, I would encourage you to check out vintage drafting.

I lost interest after all the mid-2000's scandals. The generation of players that came after hasn't really done much to drag me back.

Vintage drafting is far better anyway.

LOL...I appreciate that. I'd guess that it's because I work with a bunch of younger people and have to pull my weight just as they do. Plus, I really don't want to be one of those old geezers who fight technology...I may not embrace it all, but I try to keep my hand in with the new toys.

I am 59 and have been doing it 30 years. I have been commissioner and ran the league for all 30 of my local Al only league. I have had my years when I didn't have as much fun . One league member told me this might be his last year and ask if I think about hanging it up. I told him no and I think I will enjoy it more in my retirement years and it will give me something to do.

Long john and Johnny are right tho. Try your hand at vintage drafting. Roto ball with some cutthroat to it. It is a blast.. You to Horns
