  • anyone play fantasy golf?

am in a 12-team fantasy PGA Tour pool this year.

you pick 4 players per week, and you can only pick each player 4 times all year (32 tournaments).

my brother has been in it for 5 years, so he gave me some advice.

I picked the winner AND runnerup the first week (Snedeker-Watney) to "win" about $2.1M, but finished 2nd to the guy who also had them plus a better 4th player. last week's winner only got $500,000 or so in the pool as no one had the top 3 or 4.

$100 to play, winner of each week gets $11 (a buck from everyone else coming from that $100) plus 1st, 2nd, 3rd payouts.

    has anyone done this?

already I have crapped the bed by taking McIlroy last week when he didn't even make the cut!
I knew the majors are worth double money, but didn't know they count the Tour Championship as well. so if McIlroy has a huge year, I can only take him in 3 of those 5.

Most rivals already have used someone twice already; I have not. One guy has used Dustin Johnson three times already (to good effect) - apparently on the notion that his wife - Wayne Gretzky's daughter - will soon enough send him on another coke-induced frenzy or something.

    looking for strategies.....

I play Yahoo! Fantasy Golf, but this is the first year after a 3 or 4 year layoff. I played with a group called BestBallers that occupied 3 50 player leagues and had an offsite website where everything was tracked.

I did pretty well back then, but this year I apparently forgot everything I figured out...I'm doing terrible. The one thing I remember is making sure to stay flexible, and in yahoo only shifting players from your bench to starting position IF you lose a player to a cut OR someone is in the top 10.

It doesn't look like you have bench players though...
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

      That's just wrong..........
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

no, it's very different. we all have the same bench, I guess you could say.
when Tiger Woods was Tiger Woods, every competitor would take him in the first 3 majors - to not do so would bury you.
more interesting, probably, with no clear No. 1.

no moves after Wednesday nites: those are your 4 guys for the week.

I've been leaning "horses for courses" - taking players who always do well at a course and/or top 3 there the year before. but a lot of people do that, and it's not that effective, in many cases.

basically when you use major studs in non-majors, you really NEED for them to kick ass (thanks, Rory!). the 3-times Dustin Johnson guy also played one of his Bubba Watson cards - and Holmes is now spitting the bit to make a Watson-Johnson 1-2 possible. that would be huge for that owner and brutal for the rest of us (though not as brutal as my 1-2 with lesser guys Snedeker-Watney).

btw, those sites like draftkings and fanduel allow you to put money - even big money - up on a weekly PGA contest (well, every sport, including college hoops). they strike me as lottery-esque, with a huge payoff to someone, modest prizes to a few, and the rest you're out of luck. semblance of skill - if you make stupid picks, you are doomed - but it's more you can lose before you start but you probably won't win anything...

UPDATE: wow, this is really, really good
