I'm pretty sure my selfish, ignorant brother in law already got this. He didnt visit his parents, but that was the only change he made. Said he was going to live his life. Even went to his gym with a slight fever and runny nose. Doesnt believe his actions can hurt anyone. Very frustrating to me. Refused to get tested even though he's on the phone talking to us and saying he's out of breath which is the symptom that gives you a clue that this isnt a cold or flu.

My two ignorant sisters-in-law are still trying to book the Mexico trip we all had planned together for June. I don't know if it's obliviousness or just plain stupidity, but it's a sign that they're just not taking this seriously enough. One of them, whose weirdo husband is one of those crazy apocalyptic militia guys, seems to believe this is all government-led hysteria and is overblown. The other just has her head in the clouds and floats around as if nothing is any different.
While most of my FB feed seems to be taking this seriously, I did notice one, an ex-girlfriend, posting pics of her current and ongoing trip to Cancun, showing a resort filled with oblivious and ignorant people (including herself) having the time of their lives. Her caption "No coronavirus here!!" shows she's not exactly taking it serious either, or is just clueless. Yeah, what better place to be than in a country not exactly locking itself down filled with people from all over the globe, many of whom may be carriers of the disease.
This is why I feared that moron in the WH's downplaying of this, because his PR arm (Fox News) echoed that this was nothing with nothing, just another big Democratic hoax. I don't have much hope for America getting through this because of this.
Meanwhile, China announced they don't have any new cases, so they've stalled at 80,000 or so, which for a population of over a billion, doesn't seem too bad. Maybe we can learn something from them. Oh wait, I forgot that moron declared an economic war on them, why would they care what happened to us.

Yeah, I already posted that spring break video. I've seen students act like that here too. But as CBB and Revo have subsequently pointed out, that sort of obliviousness is not restricted to college-aged kids. Way too many don't care about this thing enough.
Anyone see this story about 3 members of the same family dying of it out of 7 cases in the family? It is possible, as I've posted with some other links, that there are genetic risk factors beyond what has been reported widely so far, that increase the mortality rate of this thing.

"Two years ago, the CDC stopped funding epidemic prevention activities in 39 countries, including China, after the Trump administration refused to reallocate money to a program that started during the government's response to the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
At that time, former CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden said the move "would significantly increase the chance an epidemic will spread without our knowledge and endanger lives in our country and around the world."
In response to the coronavirus outbreak, "we're two months too late in starting to do this," said Dr. Eric Toner, who studies hospital preparedness at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.
"I really think this is a fundamental responsibility of government to have acted on this a long time ago."

In the eyes of some doctors, prominent figures appeared to be moving to the front of the line.
“As predicted, #COVID19 is exposing all of the societal inequities,” Dr. Uché Blackstock, an urgent care doctor in Brooklyn, wrote on Twitter. “It’s upsetting for me to 1) have to ration out #COVID19 testing to my patients, then 2) have to wait 5-7 days for the results, when celebrities are getting tested with ease and quick turnaround times.”"Looks like I picked a bad day to give up sniffing glue.

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs.

The NYC/NJ/Connecticut outbreak continues to be the most concerning for me. Not only does it now have three times as many cases as the Washington state outbreak, but it's also growing at twice the rate. Today the NY outbreak will pass Washington state in case rate per population.
The New Orleans outbreak continues to be on my radar, although it has not exploded the way the NY outbreak has. Louisiana has twice the cases of Texas, despite having one sixth of the population.
The Chicago outbreak is working its way onto the radar, too, although it's nowhere near NY or New Orleans in terms of current case rate."Jesus said to them, 'Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you.'"

Johns Hopkins also has a Github where they are posting this data, although I haven't tried using it yet.

I mentioned last week about how I know someone on the key medical calls on all this, and how NY/NJ was already certain to explode - and how it will continue through next week. what was done was already done.
on the other end, there is some hope by them that the end of March starts to show some serious improvement via social distancing (here in NJ we have a statewide curfew of 8 pm to 5 am and basically everything is closed except medical facilities, supermarkets, and liquor stores).
so brace yourself for the NY/NJ wave of bad news. but know, too, that March might - might - go out like a lamb.finished 10th in this 37th yr in 11-team-only NL 5x5
