Another stats update as of 7:46 AM today. Last stats were from 6/22 at 7:46 AM, exactly 7 days ago:
- 2,637,180 cases in US, up from 2,356,715, an increase of 11.90% which is a much larger increase than last time (8.99%). The new cases for this period were 280,465. A comparison w last period's new cases (194,309) gives a new cases increase rate of 1.443, which is much, much higher than that of the last update (1.255). It is an understatement to say that the 2nd wave has started now. I will briefly discuss how staggering these figures are below.
- 128,438 deaths in US, up from 122,249, an increase of 5.06% which is a much larger increase than last time (3.72%). The US mortality rate is now 4.87%, much lower than last time (5.19%).
- 10,220,387 cases worldwide, up from 9,019,955, an increase of 13.31% which is about the same increase rate as last time (13.21%). The new cases for this period were 1,200,432. A comparison w last period's new cases (1,052,778) gives a new cases increase rate of 1.140, which is lower than last time (1.165). This rate remains well above 1.00.
- 504,872 deaths worldwide, up from 471,070, an increase of 7.18% which is smaller than last time (8.04%). The world mortality rate is 4.94%, which is much lower than last time (5.22%).
- 218 countries/territories/etc. have reported cases while only 12 actual countries havent and 2 of those are suspected to have cases. This hasnt changed in a while so until something changes I'll stop listing this.
Rates of increase were much larger than last time for US. New case rate was about the same for the world but the death rate decreased. Cases continue to surge in Russia, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Mexico, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and South Africa.
It's hard for me to believe what is happening in the US now. I expected a 2nd wave but nothing like this. I've noted for a while that some states were having a surge but many of these were states that didnt have many cases to begin with so this was still like part of the 1st wave. The case % increase is the highest it's been since late April. And the new cases rate of increase is the highest it's been since early April, back when the cases were doubling about every 10 days. Basically, we appear to have been set back about 2 1/2 months. This surge has happened only in the last 2-3 weeks, as 2 weeks ago the new cases rate of increase was only 0.911. This is after a prolonged period where things had stabilized. How quickly things can turn. But the surge is practically all in the southern states. The death rate increase is up by a much lesser amount. This is partly because the death of infected persons takes about 2.5-3 weeks to occur so the death rate should go up more. But it might not nearly reach the same rate of increase in cases because many of the new cases are younger people who are a lot less likely to die from the disease. Western Europe generally has not seen a 2nd wave, altho there has been a recent slight uptick in Germany. Not only very disappointing but scary.

And Calif starting to shut back down--bars, brewery's, winery's all closing--in person dining in certain areas, movie theatres etc. It's almost like opening back up was a bad idea---I wish someone would have told em that.If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

BTW, my good friend from the last casino I worked at is in quarantine because he came in contact with a covid positive staff member. He has an eight month old son. Have you seen a Trump Rally? Getting drunk at a bar is probably the only way most of them can ever get laid--well that or Family Reunions...........If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

For those who may have to fly in the next 2-3 months, good news and bad news - United, American, and Spirit have all announced they'll start filling middle seats on flights. United is tripling it's total flights (for those who fly regularly, that means you can travel to the hell known as O'Hare more easily and frequently), and Delta's adding about 200 flights.I'm just here for the baseball.
