I looked back and i was directed to work from home in march when there were about 25 new cases a day in washington. Florida had over 5000 new cases reported today. To state the obvious, this is going to get worse before it gets better.

It is hard to believe right now that Washington was the first epicenter. Whatever they did seems to have worked. They leveled off quick while more and more states pass them.

I've been working from home, but I have to go into the office at some point today or tomorrow.

2 people in my office have tested positive in the last week.

My MIL flew in from Florida today. Juust beat the 14 day quarantine order from Cuomo for Floridians. Not that she plans on really leaving the house much anyway.

So a little example of why, no matter who is in charge, we will watch hundreds of thousands die from this Virus.

My ex place of employment re-opened. Prior to reopening, they did NOT require all returning employees to test for Covid, at their re-orientations--they did not use masks or enforce social distancing, they packed the poker tables 9 handed and NOW that they had a guest who was taken away but EMTs test positive for Covid-19, they tell their employees that working their shift is voluntary should they feel uncomfortable BUT--that they will report to the EDD (unemployment) That they have refused work thus disqualifying them from UI benefits. They also threatened legal action against any employee posting the fact a guest tested positive in their casino.

It's greedy fuckers like this (who exist all over) who do NOT care about anything but making as much money as they can, who have made this pandemic as catastrophic as it become. It's only too bad these people aren't the ones suffering for this hubris and selfishness.

I am SO thankful I left when I did--one of the best choices I've made in my life.

Thing is, while in CA Newsome has done things pretty well, So Cal rsidents have pretty much ignored him even in LA County where they've had strict measures. Just check it out, La County, Orange, Riverside, San Diego--pretty much every coastal community South of Grapevine is blowing up with Covid Surges and top the states cases and casualty numbers.

Another example, in OC AFTER a well thought out socially distanced, masked graduation, hundreds of the bGrads (clas of almost 700) decided to march from the ceremnony to the beach and down the boardwalk with parents cheering the entire way. It's shit like this (and there are so many examples similar to this) that make me feel, we won't be out of the woods until months after they have a working vaccine.

Yup - mandate just came out that masks are required in all places of business in the county I live in. Good!

Now, the response, "I'm not wearing a mask. You don't have to wear a mask if you have certain disabilities, and they aren't allowed to ask us about disabilities, so no one has to wear one".

People have tried that here--it really depends on the venue and it's management. Some are requiring doctor certification for any issues or disabilities which might prevent people from masking.

I'm glad your community will be a bit safer for you and yours--I hope it goes better than it has here.

Actually, this has already been addressed. I don't have all the court cases handy (I suspect there's been a lot; we have had two just in my area), but businesses can prevent an individual from entering their business if they're not wearing a mask. There's two outs for the businesses - reasonable modifications (like providing curb-side pickup) or direct threat to health and safety of others.

So, in your case, if one person...maybe named Ken....noted to HR that lack of mask wearing would put him or a family member under a direct health threat, that would pretty much force your workplace's hand.

I was just at the zoo with my family. Masks required but once inside, there was basically nobody around to enforce. I’d say half the people inside had their masks on their necks or in their hands. Not that many people there though since they’re limiting guests.

KS, based on the numbers, what are your thoughts on the daily new deaths count continuing to go down? It surprised me. I guess we are getting better at treating it?
