Sanders voters, or folks who would come out for him in the primary, need something to come out for. If Biden offers it, they will. He never has, and he isn't about to start. Hillary already obliterated Trump on the black vote, so there's no edge for Biden there. The working class seem to be backing Biden because they see him as the most electable among the Dems to beat Trump... but that's among Democratic voters. Once you hit the general, does Biden "at 75%" as Sour Masher pegs it, with a worse record than HRC but less despised in the media on the whole... will independents and Obama-Trump voters flip back to him? Maybe if he shows mental competence. I don't think he can do it. I think he's at closer to 40-50% of peak form. He will be embarrassed and to low information voters, that will probably be enough. Especially given Trump's incumbency, and likelihood to exploit his advantages at the levers of control... I think there's no way. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to hammer away at a feeble Biden in the WH until AOC primaries him in 2024. Much like I supported HRC in '16 with the same intent.

I was not against anybody from day 1, except Joe Biden. I was open to whoever carried the most progressive agenda, who created the broadest base of supporters, and who would appeal to non-voters... basically, I valued electability from the start. I've been saying Joe Biden would never beat Trump from the start. That remains true. It's sad to me that people don't see it. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

In fact, my very early candidates I liked were Richard Ojeda and Kirsten Gillibrand, which I based entirely on personality with Ojeda, and I thought Gillibrand was kinda foxy and used persuasive progressive messaging... so everyone saying I've been Bernie or Bust from day 1, stop it.

My loathing of Warren developed over time. It started off with troubling signals. She didn't endorse Sanders in 2016 because she had a backroom deal with Clinton going back to 2013.... a bad sign. Then the DNA test looked horrible, hurting her electability. As the campaign went on, Warren was using weasel words talking about M4A, like "access to affordable care", and I called her out on it from the start because I have a low tolerance for bullshit. Some here eat bullshit for breakfast lunch and dinner, specifically wealthy well-educated white people. When it became clear that Warren's base was not broad enough, even B-Fly acknowledged that she had no path to the White House... when it became clear that she had no shot unless she knifed Bernie in the back publicly to steal the broad base he had built, she used all of her terrible political instincts to listen to the Clinton advisors in her campaign, and claim Bernie was a sexist... now Warren is making the case that Sanders' supporters tweets are disqualifying for him... she's been revealed as standing for nothing but her own self interest... yukking it up on SNL while Bernie still has a shot to win... no, rather the candidate with Dementia who holds NONE of your positions and who is much more personally hostile to voters than whatever Bernie Bro bullshit... Biden has been yelling in voters faces, dismissing Iraq war veterans, dismissing immigration and climate activists, calling voters "fat" and "too old", pushing voters, ruffling shirts, invading space like he promised he wouldn't, threatening to slap voters... right, much more respectful than Bernie 'my good friend Joe Biden' Sanders...

It's a joke. Her remaining supporters who retain some belief that she's either a better strategic politician than Bernie, or somehow values progressive ideals over her self interest is delusional.

Bernie, if he goes down, is the only one to not stoop to personal attacks on anybody. That may be why he loses, we can do the autopsy after its over. But however it ends up, he goes out with more integrity in his pinky finger than a phony "player in the game" like Elizabeth Warren.

There's more thoughtful comments and total words in this post alone than DMT has posted in a month. I bump it to highlight what a coward and troll DMT is that he refuses to answer with any substance, only personal attacks.

It's possible, but then who was the last safe Dem nominee to win? Clinton and Obama were the change candidates, even Gore actually won if votes were fully counted, and would have won decisively if not for the Lieberman handicap... all the "safe" picks in the last 30 years have lost.

You may be right. I have many reasons to believe the "socialism sucks" election strategy would not have depressed turnout as much as a walking corpse with a terrible record would. For the 3rd time today, I hope I'm as wrong about my theory of the case as I was about my theory of the primary.
