Well what if the dems put up a very similar candidate as last time ? Dont u think everyone learned their lesson?

Last time was not a referendum on Trump. It was one deeply polarizing figure against another. Biden and Sanders have never been polarizing to the extent Hillary Clinton was polarizing. They are two of the most broadly well liked Democrats in the country. Meanwhile, in 2016 Clinton was the known political quantity while Trump was a wild card. In 2020, we now know very well how Trump does the President thing. As an electorate, are we cool with it or not?

I mostly agree, but like sour masher am nervous with either candidate. Lots of time and info ahead of us .

Less than many of the talking heads suggest, per polling. The likeability gap for Sanders (people with a positive versus negative opinion of him) is much better than Trump's or Clinton's were at any point in the 2016 campaign. Much of the polarization about Sanders isn't about Sanders. Rather it's about "Bernie Bros"/Sanders' supporters, or about "Socialism" more broadly, and whether a self-described Democratic Socialist can win. But mostly, people like Sanders himself. Same with Biden, though.

They can't get over him running for Senate repeatedly as an Independent and railing against the corporate spending/big money that they rely upon for their never-ending election cycles. But that's an issue for the Democratic political leaders, not so much for voters. It helps him with voters.

They can't get over him running for Senate repeatedly as an Independent and railing against the corporate spending/big money that they rely upon for their never-ending election cycles. But that's an issue for the Democratic political leaders, not so much for voters. It helps him with voters.

I do agree and i suppose a good question to consider is if the money that the dems rely on leads to policies that favor those giving the money. I think it is pretty clear that it does, although i suspect many disagree

But at the same time, unless we can get the Supreme Court to reverse Citizen's United *and* get the federal, state and local governments to approve public funding of elections, the vast majority of candidates couldn't compete in the vast majority of races otherwise. The field would be heavily tilted to those who can self-fund their campaigns, which presents its own problems.

...which is why Elizabeth Warren breaking her campaign pledge against taking super PAC funds to take $9 million which won't be disclosed until 60% of the votes are cast is such a clear representation of her total inauthenticity. Agree or disagree?
