That’s the part I don’t get. I can’t, for the life of me, understand how his base doesn’t see how he’s totally winging it, trying to push through campaign promises without doing any homework.
    *sigh*

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he does not need to prepare “very much” for his upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because success at the summit will be “about attitude."

“I think I'm very well prepared. I don't think I have to prepare very much. It's about attitude, it's about willingness to get things done, but I think I've been preparing for this summit for a long time, as has the other side,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. “I think they've been preparing for a long time also. So this isn't a question of preparation, it's a question of whether or not people want it to happen, and we'll know that very quickly.”

    • I want you to give up Mike Trout to me. I'll give you some other players back. I don't really know who all the players involved will be or how they're doing this year. I don't think I need to. It's about attitude, willingness to make the deal. So this isn't a question of preparation, it's a question of whether or not you want to give up Trout for some other players, and we'll know that very quickly.

well, I suppose he is correct in that last part of the last sentence.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

        • this is kind of new for Rodman. before he was like Kim doesn't tell me how to shoot and rebound and i don't tell him how to run his country. which i figured was safe way to go.

you know you go to figure Kim doesn't have a lot of people that would tell him like it is. kind of in a Leo Dicaprio way. ..how many people are going to go up and say 'Hey, Leo your last movie sucked!' then you'd miss out on all the future booze-filled naked supermodel parties.

but i can see Dennis Rodman's opinion having value.

            • sounds like a state's rights thing?

Kagan and half of Breyer (really) joined the conservative majority (though Kennedy can be complicated) in last month's overturn of the limp federal ban on sports betting.

I am not a lawyer, but some have said that the lame 'kind of' federal ban on marijuana doesn't work, either.

if I understand it, the feds can aggressively ban both - and run the operation. but if they don't have the will to do that, then get out of the way and let the states decide.

on the sports betting end, DE jumped in Tuesday. I speculate that NJ (which created the whole ruckus) is No. 3 next week, with MS and WV jockeying for next position. but a crowded field, with NY and RI also in play early. (UT and HI, as always, will never enter the race.)

the middle America casino states would follow in allowing. most of the South doesn't seem interested maybe for moral reasons, and not much of the West either - I've been out there. why stay inside on a great hiking day - and if you still have cell service mid-hike to place on online bet, you aren't doing it right!

They are selling it as a state's rights thing. I think your take is closer--better no law than one you will not enforce. In that light, it dovetails with Trump's stand on immigration. Both come down to enforce the law or get rid of it.

                • Dumb Donald (through Peter Navarro) said “there’s a special place in hell” for leaders like Justin Trudeau.

But then he did campaign a few times for his good buddy Vladimir Putin to be added back into the G7.

This is Trump, so where it probably comes from is that he wants to troll Jeff Sessions, who thinks all marijuana users are dangerous libertines punching their ticket straight to hell.

His campaign. Wasn't the way he planned, but decriminalization was certainly a commitment. Plus, this has support from one of the most unusual set of politicians and big money interests - I mean, heck, Charles Koch and Elizabeth Warren both agree on this - that it's a no lose proposition for him.

                              • So I don't see how yesterday's summit was a negative in any way. It was positive, and we have much more cause for optimism regarding North Korea than we did a year ago when the leaders were exchanging nuclear threats and insults. But it's clearly only a very tip-of-the-iceberg thing. An agreement to continue working together in good faith toward peace and denuclearization, but no firm commitments to specific, measurable, time-bound action (except presumably the US promise to cease military exercises on the Korean peninsula). I feel like if President Obama had held the exact same summit and signed the exact same commitment that the GOP would be slamming him for that concession and for the embrace of Kim's legitimacy with no specific measurable concessions from the DPRK. But I'll give Trump a positive diplomacy stamp of approval contingent on sustained momentum toward a more comprehensive future agreement with specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound commitments.
