    Hmmm... a couple thoughts.

    1) How did ridding Iraq and Libya of their monstrous leaders work out ?

    2) Curious your thoughts about the Saudis. Prince Mohammad bin Salman just finished a U.S tour high fiving and french kissing anybody who is somebody. Is he a monster ? Or is he a champion of human rights ? If the Saudi's were our "enemies" would they receive glowing press reviews and boot licking that he gets now. if tomorrow we decide we wanted to overthrow him do you think he'd get the same treatment from the press ?

I'm no fan of any dictator, but I have a hard time believing he is much different than any other dictator in the Middle East and we seem to be fine with a bunch of them.

Just for contrast to those numbers, my country (and teenwolf's) which has roughly one tenth your population - has admitted almost 50,000 refugees from Syria in the past 2.5 years - we have a family living up the block from me. They seem to be very nice people - their kids are always playing soccer in the small park behind us, which, considering that this has been a cold Canadian spring, is saying something.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I know you weren’t asking me, but...

Obviously, in hindsight, the void left by the removal of Saddam was hugely underestimated. That was a tragic mistake that, to this day, is still manifesting in that region. While I would still argue that Saddam needed to go, just as I would argue Asad needs to go, the Coalition (US) backed the wrong faction for post war Iraq. The US didn’t really understand the political landscape and cultural infighting between factions of the Iraqi population. If I understand correctly, Syria is even more fractioned.

But was the US really involved in Libya’s removal of, and uprising against Gaddafi and his government? I get the call Coalition forces became involved during the Civil War, but did we really instigate the operation? It seems to me that this was more about immigrant treatment and rights and cultural unrest by the population of an “Arab Spring” uprising.

As I said, I'm not suggesting refine change. I realize what I'm suggesting is not practical under current international law, but I'm saying that in cases like this, the international community should demand the individual at the top answer for specific crimes the international community has agreed are so extreme they must be answered from. We give that country s chance to give that individual up or we use whatever force necessary to extract or kill him. We don't try to topple the entire regime.

As far as the Saudis, I'm not aware if them crossing this particular line, but if they did, taking out the king wouldn't be a big deal. The royal family has hundreds of princes to take his place, and the next one would think twice before crossing the same line.

Look, I know I'm being impractical, but the reason people do these things is they think they can get away with it. Assad thinks he is safe, because Russia has his back. If the international community had in place system of personal accountability for such atrocities, I think the individual at the top would be less likely to commit them.

          • Anyway, I don't want to bring this thread off topic onto Assad.

Bernie and others who want to give the benefit of the doubt on the timing of the Syrian strike not being calculated by Trump to cover for his bad news cycle, you gotta concede that the timing of Scooter Libby's pardon is an obvious signal to underlings being questioned in the current investigation, right? He is basically telling them it is okay to lie, because if they get caught, he will pardon them. How is that being overlooked? It is so brazen and out of the blue.

            • The Scooter Libby pardoning and timing is only for that reason.

A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!

For real. It is nice for someone like him, on that network, to say this. I'll give him credit/respect for that. But he isn't a lone voice in the wilderness on this one, so I am happy I don't have to use him as my reference point for this argument. That dude is such a glib jerk.

                          • Would you vote for a law the would ban Tucker Carlson and Rachel Maddow?

Tucker-free America, but it can only happen with Rachel-free America. Would you vote for such a law?

Only with a Hannity thrown in...and maybe a Joe Scarborough.

Maybe just make it a Fox free and MSNBC free America!

And if Napoleon had a B-52 at the battle of waterloo, would things have been different?

Yes, yes, I would, although I agree with Hornsby, I'd definitely want Hannity thrown in.
