  • Picking and sticking with a DST

I have a DST question for the ‘pen…

Currently have SF defense and have been streaming each week…they looked good last week and were fairly average this week. Been fairly successful streaming, but I have a question about DST philosophy given the league settings.

In this league, DST get 1pt/sack, 6pt for any TD and 2pt for turnovers gained and receive no negative points until the opposing team hits 28pts scored. However, in this league the DST also get 0.1pt/yd in punt returns. I’m not sure if this is standard in many leagues or not, but, my question then becomes this:

Do I worry about teams that get sacks/turnovers only, or should I place a premium on the punt return yards and the potential for DEF TD?

The main reason I ask is that the PHI defense is out there on free agency. They have allowed the 7th most points against, but up until this week, they had 19 more points than the next DST and averaged 17.8 and their lowest pt/wk was 6.5. The gap should increase after this week when they scored 25.3 points. They have only had 3INT, 2FR, but they have had 5TD…this week they added 3 more FR and 2 more TD!! But, on top of that, they also have the most punt return yards at 246 after this weekend.

So, in a round-about way, is it worth picking up and starting the PHI defense each and every week just for the potential of a defensive TD and/or big game by Sproles in PR yardage?

Yeah, it looks like punt return yardage will be critical. Philly is on pace for having the most punt return yardage in the last few years, so they could be a nice add.
