According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Rob Gronkowski (ACL, MCL surgery) is "50-50" for Week 1.
Optimism for Gronk's Week 1 availability swelled after he avoided the active/PUP list, but he's yet to be cleared for contact or participate in team drills. He is still only eight months removed from tearing his ACL, meaning he'd be on a Peterson-esque timeline for the start of the season. The fact that Gronk avoided the PUP list means the Patriots are confident he'll be available some time in the first six games, but his Week 1 status can't be taken for granted. This being the Pats, substantive updates might be hard to come by between now and September 7, when Gronk and Co. kick things off with a trip to Miami.
