  • Browns Fire CEO, GM

what a laughingstock of an organization:

Browns promoted assistant GM Ray Farmer to general manager and fired GM Mike Lombardi.
CEO Joe Banner has also been relieved of his duties and will be out of the organization by May. So, the madness in Cleveland continues on. Lombardi and Banner joined the Browns, along with coach Rob Chudzinski, ahead of the 2013 season, and now all three have been fired a year into the job. This also partly explains why Farmer, 39, pulled out of the running for the Dolphins' GM job last month. While it's been a crazy time in Cleveland, it's arguable that the Browns are actually upgrading with this move. Farmer is a well-respected personnel man, while Lombardi was merely a figurehead. Owner Jimmy Haslam will allow Farmer and new coach Mike Pettine -- who we assume is safe -- to handle things for at least the next couple seasons, we'd imagine.

"Owner Jimmy Haslam will allow Farmer and new coach Mike Pettine -- who we assume is safe -- to handle things for at least the next couple seasons, we'd imagine."

Why would anyone imagine this? Since the team was reestablished, when has any Browns owner shown patience and/or wisdom?

Don't get me wrong here. I'm a Steelers fan, have been since my team was one of the league's laughingstocks back in the Sixties. I want my team to stomp on the Browns every time they play--but I want the Browns to be a competitive team when my team does it. I want the Browns to be the second-best team in the division; right now, they barely qualify for fourth best.

I really would like the Browns to have an owner who doesn't have his head up his rear, and right now, I'm not sure they have one. Isn't this the same guy who just hired Banner and Lombardi?

I haven't paid attention to anything football since the Bronco taming so I had no idea what was going on in Cleveland. That being said, thank God dumb and dumber are gone now I can restore some hope for the future
