  • Strahan, D. Brooks Head Up 2014 HOF Class

Talk show host Michael Strahan enters the Hall, Derrick Brooks & Walter Jones were elected in their 1st year of eligibility, and Andre Reed, Aeneas Williams, Ray Guy and Claude Humphrey round out the class of 2014. Guy becomes the 1st punter elected.

Running back Jerome Bettis, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, linebacker/defensive end Kevin Greene, defensive end Charles Haley and guard Will Shields had made the cut from 15 modern-era finalists to 10, but did not make the cut to the five players to be voted on, yes or no, for the Class of '14. Former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, wide receiver Tim Brown, safety John Lynch, Tony Dungy and kicker Morten Andersen did not make the cut from 15 to 10 in Saturday's selection meeting.

Hey, Ray Guy made it. Why put n more than one Raider at a time?
I'm just here for the baseball.

      5th all-time in all-purpose yards
      6th all-time receiving yards
      5th all-time receptions
      7th all-time receiving TDs

All despite having a generally shitty QB situation. Far better numbers across the board than Andre Reed.
      Couldn't agree more.

There's not really any rhyme or reason to who gets in the football HOF and when. Brown will get in eventually.

          This is an absolute travesty!

I feel like Tim Brown is the new-era's Art Monk.

I'm sorry...I didn't think Andre Reed deserves to be in the Hall...ever!

The rest of the class, I'm okay with.

I'm not which one I hope to get to drive during HOF weekend this year.

Obviously, my first choice as a Raiders fan is Ray Guy but the driver who is 3rd in seniority is a big Raiders fan as well (and I'm only 7th).

          Hey, just my thoughts.

I know. I was just yankin' your chain. I'm no Chiefs fan, but Will Shields not getting in ahead of about half of this class is an equal, if not greater, tragedy than Tim Brown not getting in.

Being that Art Monk and Andre Reed have nearly identical career stats and lengths, why would you think Monk is a HOFer but not Reed?

Mostly because Monk accumulated his stats on a run-first team and was ranked #1 in total yards and receptions when he retired.

Reed had a great QB and was in more pass-happy era than Monk.

Yeah, I'm probably more pissed off about him in front of Brown than anything....lol

I agree with this as well.

Would you believe it if I told you that during the Bills' heyday of '88-'93, their passing offense was not once ranked higher than their rushing offense in any given year?

Your favorite Poguesy is a big Derrick Brooks fan.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

That is surprising....but they did have Thurman Thomas...so not hard to believe. Thanks for the info.

I'd be down with that. I met Brooks and John Lynch when I visited the ESPN studios back in the late 90's.

They were on the morning show with Berman and the boys because they were on a bye week.

                            Both were super nice guys!
