  • How would you handle?

I commish a league where trading rules are the following

"there are no hard veto rules but if the commisioner recieves complaints he will have a conversation with both owners and if its shown there is no collusion, trades will stand".

the second part states "there will be no borrowing trades nor will there be future trades or PTBNL trades."

So last week, two owners want to make the following deal

Team A trades Gronk and Russell Wilson
Team B trades Newton and Dallas Clark

The problem being NE played Thurs so the trade cannot go through until Week 3. The owners then decide, they will trade the QBs on Friday, then the TEs on the following Tuesday. I tell them they cannot do that. They then settle on

Team A trades Jennings and Russell Wilson
Team B trades Newton and Dallas Clark

Yesterday, Team B puts newly acquired Jennings OTB and less than 24 hours later, he is traded back to Team A for Gronk. When I speak to owner B, he tells me this wasnt agreed upon prior but he really doesnt want Jennings and really wants Gronk.

On the surface, the tradeof Jennings-Gronk is fair enough. However, knowing what I know, the trade stinks. I have never had a problem with either owner.

Would you allow the trade to go through?

one other caveat. I had inquired about getting Gronk from the owner but was told I didnt have enough to get him, yet he went for Greg Jennings? Fishy. My belief is this was pre-arranged.

Tough since you say collusion isn't in play but it sure seems bad. It would have been easier if they waited until week 3 to deal. But is doesn't include a PTBNL and it isnt borrowing so I would let it go. I would also tell them that if something like this comes up again just wait and make the trade the following week.

I would have a tough time letting this trade go through especially since Gronk is supposedly going to be back soon.

I know I spoke with you before, and I'm in this league, but this is clearly a collusion deal even if they didn't intend it to be.

Team A wanted to get Newton to start for this week, and the agreed upon deal couldn't be done because Gronk already played and was frozen. So instead, they replaced Gronk with a placeholder player (Jennings), who was then promptly shipped back for the agreed-upon player (Gronk) after the week was completed. So even though Jennings was not used by the team who acquired him, it still fits the description as "borrowing a player."

agreed. I have privately spoken to 4 people I respect and all say say this trade shouldnt be allowed to go through. I am reversing it.

            Let the fireworks begin.

After talking to one owner who suggested I let the league decide, I will poll the league although I hate doing it.

A poll is probably the best move...but I think the league also needs to be aware of the entire situation. They may decide the original trade was fair enough, and let it go through. However, the league may also need to discuss, for next year, a new rule that disallows these types of moves.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

I can tell you from personal experience Pete, nothing good can come from posting a poll.

Late to the party but pretty clear cut violation. It's a borrow trade
