  • Week Two Waiver Wire Option - Deep League, Shallow Thoughts

The following players might be available in a 12 teamx16 player league or 14 teamx14 player league...

QB Pryor or Geno Smith had decent debuts, but I can't imagine ranking them even in the top 20. Maybe a minor upgrade with some upside over your backup if you have a scrub backup QB

RB Bolden from New England then Blount from New England. Joique Bell 2 TDs as the goal line back, but only if your league is really TD heavy. Dwyer of Pit as a possible short run option.

WR As expected, there are a bunch of free agents who had big games. That'll happen each week, since WR game-to-game yardage is so variable.
--Edelman: New England went with a lot of three WR sets and Edelman was the beneficiary. In the long run, not sure if he's much of an answer if Thompkins improves.
--Brian Hartline, unexciting, available in one of my leagues. Should have solid production, so if you are really thin, he might not be a bad start during a tough bye week.
--Rod Streator (Oak): Denarius Moore likely to outplay him and Pryor will run a lot, limiting his options.
--Andre Roberts/Jerome Simpson/Nate Burleson/Leonard Hankerson/Doug Baldwin/Harry Douglas - had good games, but are either the #2 option on a team without a dominant passing attack, or the #3 option on teams with a good passing attack; I'd take a pass on these guys.

    TE A few ok options
--Julius Thomas: Might be available if you drafted early. Seemed tough to guard, but his blocking is questionable, so a more healthy Tamme/Dreesen might take snaps away from him. And keep in mind that Peyton won't throw for as many yards as he did last week, and Denver has three good WR options as well.
--Dallas Clark (Bal): 12 targets; he might be a good option in this two TE offense.
--Kellen Winslow: Geno Smith's security blanket, but is already dinged up a bit, questionable with a knee injury.
--Charles Clay (Mia): Got some looks but not terribly exciting.

Not so sure on Pryor -- if he runs for even half as much as he did on Sunday, we're looking at a potential for 800+ yards rushing. I have him in a deep league that starts 2 Qbs, and I'm going to use him over Philip Rivers this week.

Excellent point - perhaps I was too dismissive of Pryor. I just don't see him as top 20 right now, depending on your league rules on rushing yards vs. passing TDs. I do think that now that there is tape on him, teams can adjust a bit.

1-15) The obvious ones and Vick and Dalton
16-19) Flacco-Schaub-Palmer-Bradford - each were solid fantasy backups in drafts, with firm holds on the starting jobs, and decent but not great numbers, and each threw for 300 yards (except for Bradford, who got 299) in week one.
Candidates for #20: Pryor, Cutler, Big Ben (tho he looked bad in week 1), Tannehill, Freeman, Rivers
