  • 12 team yahoo - fantasy football - A primer

I have been roped into playing in 2 yahoo football head to head leagues.

I have been playing single league or draft or mixed or keeper Baseball for 20 twenty years
if haven't done football and dont really follow it.

Can I get a few newbie suggestions on drafting?
and maybe even a few player suggestions?

What type needs to be drafted first? Who?

Where is it the deepest? or players 2-8 at the same spot don't matter too much?

What spot can be filled very late?

What to look for in a bench?

Any other good advice would be helpful

    thanks

QB and TE are very deep this year so you can wait on those. If you know where you are picking we can give you a better idea of who to target in the first couple of rounds.
Bob- I'm not exactly sure it would ROCK as you say it Byron.. it may be cool, by typical text book descriptions. Your opinion of this is shallow and poorly constructed, but allow me to re-craft your initial thought into something tangable.

        Listen to Gris.

But here are a few general things:

If you only start 1 QB, then draft only RB and WR in the early rounds. Wait on a QB until at least Round 5. Wait on a TE until at least Round 7 unless it's Jimmy Graham. Wait on kicker and defense until the very end. Defenses are virtually interchangeable in this era and kickers are entirely interchangeable.

RB is the most scarce and most valuable position. In the first round, get one of these guys: RBs Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin, Jamaal Charles, CJ Spiller, Ray Rice, leSean McCoy, Marshawn Lynch, Trent Richardson, Arian Foster or WR Calvin Johnson.

If you can start 2 QB, then QB become much more scarce/valuable and you should probably take your first one early. You want one of these guys: Rodgers, Brees, P. Manning, Ryan, Brady, Griffin III, Newton, Stafford, Kaepernick, R. Wilson, Luck, Romo.

Probably a coin flip, but I'd go McFadden over Lacy; both have lousy matchups. Main knock on McFadden is his durability so that's why Lacy may have been picked in front of him. But when he is active on his team's roster, I'd generally go McFadden. But it is a close call.

Tate/Shorts over Jennings - I think you're making the right call here as we're not sure what Jennings will do. No bad choices here.

Looks like you've got a nice team!

That's a sorry looking squad for a 10 team league broseph.

in my 12-tm 2-QB league: 7 QBs went in the first round, including the first 3 picks. I dont think you can win without a top-tier QB.

                          1 Peyton Manning, Den QB
                          2 Drew Brees, NO QB
                          3 Aaron Rodgers, GB QB
                          4 Jamaal Charles, KC RB
                          5 Andrew Luck, Ind QB
                          6 LeSean McCoy, Phi RB
                          7 Adrian Peterson, Min RB
                          8 Matthew Stafford, Det QB
                          9 Matt Forte, Chi RB
                          10 Marshawn Lynch, Sea RB
                          11 Nick Foles, Phi QB
                          12 Matt Ryan, Atl QB
