Marlin Briscoe, the first African-American to start at QB in American pro football and a member of the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins team, died at age 76. RIP.
Charles Johnson, a WR who was a 1st rd pick out of the University of Colorado in 1994 by Pittsburgh and had a 9-year NFL career highlighted by a 1,000 yd season in 1996, died at age 50. RIP.
Rashard Anderson, a cornerback taken 23rd overall in 2000 by Carolina, died at age 45. RIP.
Two longtime Jet offensive linemen passed away this week:
Marvin Powell, a 5x Pro Bowl tackle for the Jets and Bucs from 1977 to 1987, who was also head of the NFLPA and then a lawyer, died at age 67. RIP.
Jim Sweeney, a center who played 16 seasons for the Jets, Seahawks & Steelers (and who played on the same line as Powell in 1984 & 1985), died at age 60. RIP.
