    Raheem Morris sacked in Tampa

Steve Spagnuolo & Billy Devaney canned in Saint Loo

    Neither a surprise.

With so many teams having changed coaches in the past two years, I don't know how many more sackings we'll see. Norv, maybe. This makes four vacancies to go along with Miami and Jacksonville.

It will be interesting to see if Spags returns to Philly to run the defense. The 4-game winning streak to close out the season saved Reid's job, but we don't yet know about Juan Castillo.

Please let the Colts sack Caldwell.

Polian is like the Eagles' brass, he just doesn't care at all about what the fans and media think. It seems logical to sack Caldwell, but we have no way of knowing what Polian and his inner circle really think.

Whoa, Irsay going rogue, firing both Polians, says Mort.

The Indianapolis Colts have fired team vice chairman Bill Polian and his son, Chris, the Colts' general manager.

Perhaps there was a rift over Manning vs. Luck. Or over Caldwell's fate. Without Polian to stand up for him, Caldwell is almost surely gone now.

This could be very scary for the Colts. Years of the Irsay's (father and son) playing GM led to really horrible teams for much of the 80's. Polian came in and changed that. I hope Irsay picks a football guy and stays out of the way. My gut says this means Manning is staying put and the pick will now be up for auction.

See, I think just the opposite... Polian was hired when the Colts had the #1 pick in 1998, where they took a franchise QB in Manning. It would not surprise me in the least now to see them cut ties with Manning (release or trade, if tradeable with that contract) and have a new GM in place when they select their next franchise QB in Andrew Luck.

He was a cheapskate (but so, I thought, were the McCaskeys) but his drafts were mostly decent. Internal dissension over the Forte contract situation?

Revo, how good of a rep does Spielman have? He seems to have had pretty good drafts but pretty poor FA signings, with the exception of Jared Allen.

Elite QB play makes such a difference in today's NFL that the chance to take someone like Luck might produce a bigger bounty than you'd think.

But I think it's more likely that the Colts part ways with Manning and use the pick to take Luck.

First, what are the chances that Manning ever returns to being an elite QB? He's almost 36 and had two neck surgeries in 2011. It would not surprise me if he is done, and I would be very surprised if he has more than 2 good seasons left in him. W

Second, we've all seen how sitting behind a HOF QB can enhance one's development so the smartest move IMO would be to draft Luck and let him learn from Manning for a couple of seasons. Of course, if they get a massive offer for Manning this off-season then it would make sense to make the trade and give the rookie something to work with.
