Great job by Haley keeping this team together despite a horrid start and losing the stud Charles.

There is a persistant rumor that hiis job was on the line for the Vikings game. They played badly in the first half. Had it turned into a blow out, he might have been done. Instead they came back and won. It did not hurt that this week was off the bye, and against the Raiders. Still, a road shutout in this era is something.

On a side note, remember the name Allen Bailey. He is going to be something.

Can anyone explaing to me why Caldwell is still a head coach? OK, yes, I realize Peyton Manning is great. You can't lose a QB of this caliber in the NFL today and not expect a decline in performance. But the Colts still have real talent on this team on both sides of the ball - we're not talking about the Rams here where they're still in rebuilding mode. And the Saints are a very good team. But 62-7? Really?

I agree with you on every point except the Rams being in rebuilding mode. They were supposed to be a team that won the NFC west. Spags should be on the hot seat as well.

Yeah, I hear you. After watching them in depth in two games, I just think the experts over-estimated how far along the Rams were. They still have a lot of work to be done in the defensive backfield, WR, and OL depth, IMO.

I agree with Chance here -- not sure how Caldwell still has his job. I've heard some say he shouldn't be held responsible for the loss of Manning. OK, fine. But this team has completely fallen apart and given up. Remember in 2008 when the Pats lost Tom Brady? Matt Cassel stepped in seamlessly and went 11-5. While they didn't make the playoffs, they didn't completely fall apart either.

Sure, this was the team coming off the undefeated season, agreed. But the Colts were a playoff team and have collapsed on both sides of the ball. From 27.2 ppg to 15.9, and from 24.2 ppg allowed to 32.2. This team has all the makings of going 0-16. Is it safe to say the team with Manning playing would be no worse than 9-7? If so, what exactly is Caldwell there to do?

To answer OJH's question I don't think it's all Caldwell. They've been making bad personnel decisions for a while. The defense has been overrated for a very long time based on how productive Freeny and Mathis are. Outside of those two and Pat Angerer, almost every defender is replaceable, and guys like Bob Sanders (now gone), Antoine Bethea and Gary brackett have long been given way too much credit for their actual talent levels. The offensive line has been deteriorating without much help, sure they brought in Castonzo this year but before that they made like plugging guys like Charlie Johnson were gonna cut it. The running game has been pathetic for years and Manning has made some mediocre receivers look good. In short, they built the team around Manning being able to succeed and he has, but the talent is pretty lacking without the main man under center.

That said, no team in today's NFL should give up 62 points in a game or average scoring around 16 a game with just one major injury as the excuse.

I'd seriously consider both, but if I had been the Colts owner, Caldwell would have driven himself home from New Orleans.

The big news was the Panthers and the Jaguars beating winning teams this week. That's their 2nd win, and with play like that they are off the board until everybody has won a game, at least.
