Sean Payton said after the draft that if Lattimore wasn't available at 11 that the Saints would have taken Mahomes. I think that KC suspected that, which is why they traded up to 10.

Other teams in the mix were Cleveland (obviously), NYG and Houston. It appears Mahomes was the hot prospect of the last week or so.

It should be noted that the Chiefs (and Texans) received discounts from book value by about a mid 4th round pick. There seems to have been a general consensus that the mid first round was weak. In contrast, the 2nd and 3rd rounds were strong.
