The Chargers announced they are staying in San Diego for at least the 2016 season, but also came to an agreement with the Rams to share the Inglewood stadium, if necessary.

Why are the reasons that they are losing the team?

The fan support drops when they struggle for a bit, and the stadium was pretty small by NFL standards. And like it or not, if a community/state doesn't help build a stadium, the team is likely gone. I would have been the 1st one to help the Vikings load up the moving vans, but the idiots at the state level did a backdoor deal at the last second.

Fan support is a very, very small part of the equation -- if it's a part of it at all.

St. Louis and the Rams have been bickering for years over stadium funding, because Kroenke thought their stadium was subpar (which it likely was).

But more importantly, Kroenke owned the former Hollywood Park site, and if he was going to move to LA, the time was now, since the Raiders and Chargers also wanted to move for this coming season. And now, with the NFL approving his stadium, he gets to own a huge stadium/mega complex in the nation's 2nd largest market, and will have another NFL team paying rent to him. In St. Louis, he was only going to own the Rams.

Money is ALWAYS a part of any consideration to move, so when there are thousands of unsold tickets, which also results in unsold concessions, it's an issue. But you're correct that it was mainly about the stadium, and if Missouri and the city decided to give the Rams their stadium, they wouldn't have moved...

In an unrelated story (for now), Rams owner Stan Kroenke just purchased the most expensive piece of real estate in the country. The 500,527 acre W.T. Waggoner Estate Ranch in Texas, which is listed at a whopping $725 million! There should be enough land on his property to build another stadium if he decides to move the Rams again.
