  • Comfort level with taking starting QB late

Where is your cut-off for lowest rated QB that you feel comfortable as your starting QB?

I'm in a 14 team league & I'm looking at the advantages of waiting to select my starting QB. Just curious where the cut-off for most people is.
    14 Team 1/2PPR league (1 Keeper)

QB: Rivers (3), Stafford (5), Keenum (NA)
    RB: Kamara (11), McKinnon (7), Bernard (7)
WR: M. Thomas (NA), Crabtree (1), Shepard (8), Wallace (NA), Cobb (NA)
    TE: Olsen (NA)
    K: Lutz (7)
    DEF: JAX (7)

    (We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 DEF)

Really depends on the size of the league and of the rosters. How many irrelevant people do you have on your bench?

I'm in a 10-team that uses rosters that are about double normal size (2 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, TE, 2 W/R/T, K, DEF, 8 bench) and even with 6-point passing touchdowns I have had a lot of success with one medium-quality QB (Romo, Eli, Flacco range) and taking three bottom-end QBs and starting one based on matchups. This year, in a league like yours, I'd probably be okay around Newton or Rivers.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

In the expert draft in NJ, I picked Peyton Manning in round 6 and Stafford in round 10....Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, Romo, Brady were available between those rounds as well.

I guess it's who you like.

I usually have 3-4 QB's that I'm willing to wait on and once they start getting selected, I'm grab one then, regardless of round.

After getting my 2 RBs & 2 WRs, it depends on how much i like the remaining RBs/WRs/TEs. Usually a 2nd or 3rd round RB/WR has to fall to my 5th pick or a top TE has to still be available for me to pass on a top QB in the 5th.

I'd be ok with an Eli/Rivers/Tannehill class of QB, but I'd probably also draft a high upside QB in the Winston/Mariota/Carr class also.

Once Luck/Rodgers/Peyton/Brees/Wilson/Big Ben go (sometimes Ryan goes at the same time as the latter three), I am fine with waiting until the first of the next bunch goes. Then I take my QB. So that means someone from the Ryan (sometimes)/Romo/Brady/Stafford/Tannehill/Eli/Bradford/Rivers group.

In my main redraft, a bunch of guys waited on QB and I got Romo in the 11th. In Liz Hurley, I was one of the last to take a starting QB and got Rivers.

If there is ever a year to wait on QB this is it as the class is very deep. Left my draft with a combo of Tannehill and Bradford and feel great about that.

In my small 2 QB league my 1st QB was 12th off the board.
