  • DraftKings football

I, for one, have quit my year-long football league in favor of only doing daily football games (takes away the total luck factor that defines fantasy football imo). Anyway, DraftKings is running a great promotion from now until 10 a.m. EST Aug. 20 for first-time users. All you have to do is sign up through my personal link below and deposit a minimum of $5 and we both get $25 free house bucks - no strings attached.

    Here's the link: https://www.draftkings.com/r/Pauly322

You guys know ive been around here for a while, so this isnt a spam post. But if the mods think this is too promotional, just take it down with my apologies.

Couldn't be less interested...I just don't like the concept of any DFS. It's like living in Vegas and constantly chasing good money after bad...instead of a one time investment of, say 100 bucks for a full season of your regular fantasy league, it's going to end up costing WAY too much in my opinion. Those companies don't lose money, just like Vegas doesn't...you may win occasionally, but in the long run, ouch.

depends which games you play. if you're 1 of 10,000 people putting up $5 each and only 5 pct of people break even or better, then what you bought is a lottery ticket with a dollop of skill attached.

but I tried a PGA Tour pool this weekend where 11,300 people put up $5, and the top 5,000 double your money (same prize if you finish 1st or 4,999th). so far I'm 842nd as the final round is underway and have 2nd-place Spieth and 5 other guys in the top 20 (you pick 6 vs a salary cap). from being in a season-long pool (where I'm 2nd), I have followed the Tour a lot more closely than most of the entrants so I definitely have an edge. Note: 1,100 - or 10 pct - of the entries were by just 11 sharks who have the max 100 entries apiece for $500 each total. we're talking algorithms and day-trading type activity, and those guys are tough to beat but I don't have to beat them to cash.

I'm pretty sure the DFS football population rolls out similarly so take that as a pro or a con.

UPDATE: I finished 392nd out of 11,300. what should I buy with my $10?

You could leave it up, Pauly. No worries, you're a valued member here.

I played Daily fantasy football & baseball the last two years, but each year found that I became more concerned about winning the $5 or $10 than I was with my season-long league, so I stopped after a few weeks. I didn't play daily baseball at all this year, and may or may not play daily football. The whole fun of fantasy football/baseball for me is the waiver wire pickups, trades, talking with league buddies and draft prep -- not gauging the weather, checking daily lineups, or praying that a .300 hitter doesn't pull an ofer. Plus, like JJ said, the field is littered with DFS pros who now do this full-time. I'd rather play against my crew and kick their ass!

Never had any interest in the daily leagues. I feel like those leagues are for the hardcore gamblers and that isn't me. But i am concerned that Yahoo has dropped their baseball pro leagues (cash prizes) in favor of these. I guess the daily leagues are a more profitable business. I just hope that the new kid on the block (daily leagues) doesn't start pushing traditional roto and head-to-head leagues by the wayside.

hey guys this wasnt supposed to be a referendum on the merits or lack thereof in daily fantasy. That said, I am someone who in his youth would bet on games; am disenfranchised with traditional fantasy football and the absolute luck it takes to win it; but I still know my stuff from a fantasy standpoint and would rather try and win $$ on that than on straight up bets anymore; and finally it gives you something to root for every week - better yet, on any week in which you desire. Oh, and this deal is good for any sport, not just football.

Bottom line- If anyone would like to give it a try, all you have to do is invest 5 bucks and then you have 30 to play with - which is a pretty good deal!

Well, you know as well as anyone here that once you put up a post, the thread takes on a life of it's own. And being that FF DFS hasn't really been debated here much, this was a perfect opportunity to do so.

So bottom line for me is this, enjoy your play, hope that you win, but count me out.

I started gambling on sports before I started playing fantasy sports. I only did it for 2 years, every night. I once had some bad dudes waiting in a restaurant booth to break my legs. I only made $400 a week (1990) but I had $800 riding every week. before the internet. when you'd call up places for scores and they'd talk real slow lol. I did pretty good too. I learned some things. but after Whitey Bugler took off, it trickled down to my bookie who eventually got busted.

then I found fantasy sports. it's a good thing I was forced to stop gambling on sports. only my bookie getting busted stopped me or i'd still be doing it now or i'd be dead. DFS with a focus on money is a bad thing. I know it's not the same. but it really is. I could take out 50 fantasy teams a day and gamble $5 to $10 bucks. hell shortly after I stopped betting I did 20 teams a year. and I won like fucking 16 of them. I could do 100 teams a day. do you see where this is going?

it's like instead of picking 1 team a week to win. you're picking more. you're doing parlays, action reverses, you're randomly being out of control.

you know the ppl that used to write and give advice are perhaps writing articles that are getting todays youth addicted to gambling thru fantasy sports. someday after the newness of it fades it's something they will have to think about.

play fantasy sports for fun. if you want to gamble and win serious money, you pick one football game. you wait an entire year for it, you do your research. and then you bet fucking big... or just one game a week and roll it over. like the guys in 1985 that had the bears until they faced Miami. and walk away when you lose and wait until next year and do it all over again.

I was hopping there would be a discussion. not much of one but I wanted to hear what others had to say now about DFS.

it's gambling... I use to meet a guy at a bar after the week. i'd either pay him or he'd pay me. yeah it was a hassle but my gambling habit was important to me. now they make it so easy .. they seem to have skirted all the rules and now thousands of fantasy players can gamble on sports.. and here we sit.

no-one that doesn't gamble wants to read articles by them anymore because they no longer write articles to help you they are now just selling you out down the gambling river. whether they realize it or not.

ill even say this is potentially the end of fantasy sports as we know it. which isn't as bad as ruining you're life being addicted to gambling. it happens a lot easier than you think.

your colleagues out there now supporting this, they've turned to the dark side. they just don't know it yet.

in that vein, I saw today that a major gamblers rehab site is considering placing DFS on the same "DO NOT" list as casinos and racetracks.

for millions of people, it's no joke, I understand. and league endorsements of these products is - as you suggest, liable to be problematic...

they are no different now than those places you'd call up back in the day for gambling advice. Jimmy the Greek etc..

that's why fantasy sports was supposed to be different. we did it for the love of the game instead of money.

if you do it for the money, you end up like Jimmy. nowadays a lot sooner than you think.

fantasy sports writers should use it to their advantage. you write articles and stuff because you care about someones team you're trying to help. instead of selling them the new brand. and now you're also doing the moral thing while you're at it.

which is kind of weird. cause it felt moral before when it was free. now it really is. and now we know why it did.

don't do podcasts for DFS. it's bad luck. it's not the path to success.
