I have been saying for a month that the RB1 was not on Dallas' roster. Now I am not sure. Christie Michael has franchise back written all over his police blotter.

Not technically preseason anymore, but Aldon Smith formerly of the 49ers has signed with the Raiders. If he can keep his shizz together, he and Khalil Mack are going to be a pretty insane 1-2 combo at the LB position.

Smith certainly qualifies under the "insane" label...

Signing certainly harkens back to the old Raiders for sure...

I like the signing a lot. Yes, he clearly has alcohol addiction issues but he's not a child beater or wife beater or general asshole, is he? Lots of upside in this signing, imo.

Well yeah, he is kind of a general asshole, despite his protests to the contrary.

Smith was arrested Thursday night by the Santa Clara Police and charged with hit and run, DUI and vandalism.


ABC7 News' Matt Keller reports that Smith was still in custody Friday morning, and that bail had been set at $26,000.


Smith was released Friday morning and said, "Justice will be served. The truth will come out. There's no DUI." He added: "I'm sorry to anybody I let down."



Smith was previously arrested for DUI in January 2012, suffered minor stab wounds during a party in June 2012 (he also faced felony assault weapons charges, which were reduced to misdemeanors). In September 2013, Smith was again arrested for suspicion of DUI and a short time later he entered rehab. In April 2014, Smith was taken into custody at Los Angeles International Airport and charged for a false report of a bomb threat, though the charge was later dropped.

At the time of the LAX arrest, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke came to Smith's defense.

"We're a family," Baalke said. "You don't just open a door and toss people out of it."

Smith added at the time: "I'm a good person, and the people who know me know I'm a good person. Maybe after this is over, you can tell your friends I'm a good person. Anybody who hangs around me can tell that. A lot of these things are being painted in a picture that's not true.”

Like I said, an alcoholic, not an asshole. He's not a piece of shit like Adrian Peterson, that's for sure. I'm concerned about the weapons stuff but he's no wife beater or child abuser.

LOL...Yeah, he's a great guy. Felony weapons charges, hit and run, vandalism, bomb threat, and being stabbed at a party. Because we ALL know that just mellowing out at a party is going to get you stabbed every time...

That's the thing for me, I guess. I don't see Aldon Smith as a shithead in the way I see Greg Hardy or Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson. I see him as an alcoholic and I don't equate that with shithead or whatever. I don't see any intention to hurt people, especially children, and I think intent is very important. Maybe I'm just apt to have more forgiveness for those who act recklessly than those who act intentionally bad. Probably some others don't make that distinction. I would have been very sad if the Raiders had signed Greg Hardy, though.

I will argue that a DUI, if found guilty, is intentionally trying to hurt someone.
