  • How did your team do?

They say, no on gets worse in the draft. Calendars do that.

The Chiefs hit every need area, sometimes twice. Only 1 OL, but he's a C. A CB1 and a slot CB. 2 WR and a TE. An ILB and an undetermined LB. No RB. No QB. Only one late round DL.

    1.18 DB Marcus Peters Washington
I like our first pick and could learn to love him. Peters was red flagged for good reason, but we appear to have done our homework.

    2.17 OL Mitch Morse Missouri
In the mock room I have been telling anyone that would listen that #49 was soon enough to draft a C, I just did not expect this one. Again, the prep work seems to be in place.

    3.12 WR Chris Conley Georgia
I like the pick, but not the trade up. Still, a bird in hand may be worth the pick we gave up. We have a real speed guy now.

3.34 DB Steven Nelson Oregon State
This is my second favorite pick, mostly because he reminds me of Javier Arenas, but cheaper. We can use a small fast slot guy.

    4.19 LB Ramik Wilson Georgia
This is my favorite pick, because he is exactly what we need, exactly where we should get him.

5.36 LB D.J. Alexander Oregon State
5.37 TE James O'Shaughnessy Illinois State

Alexander intrigues me. Small, but fast, quick and agile. Off most radar for medical reasons as well as his size. He looks like a ST ace and we'll see. Maybe DJ's replace ment. Maybe dimebacker.
James O is a nice project TE. We needed a young understudy for Kelce. Meh pick tho.

6.41 DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches Southern Mississippi
This is another pick I really like. Glue guy. High effort, relentless, better athletically than a lot of overachievers. He might be one of those guys that hangs around 10 years without ever starting, because he finds ways to be useful.

7.16 WR Da'Ron Brown Northern Illinois
Typical last round flier. Small school WR with hands and size, but no speed. Could wash right out or be a ST/WR4 for a long time. Junior Hemingway, look out.

    Initial reaction B+

    Steelers

1st - OLB Alvin (Bud) Dupree - Kentucky

    2nd - CB Senquez Golsen - Mississippi

    3rd - WR Sammie Coates - Auburn

4th - CB Doran Grant - Ohio State

5th - TE Jesse James - Penn State

6th - DT Leterrius Walton - Central Michigan

    6th - DE Anthony Chickillo - Miami

7th -FS Gerod Hollimon - Louisville

The Steelers addressed their most glaring defensive needs by drafting three defensive backs (2nd, 4th, 7th) and a linebacker (1st). The first two picks Dupree and Golsen should be able to make an impact right away. I especially like getting a defensive back in the 7th round who had 14 picks in just 9 games last year. Hollimon could end up being one of the steals of the draft.

The two defensive lineman drafted (both 6th) are looking more like organizational depth at this point.

The problem i have with this draft right now is that i thought Pittsburgh should have taken at least one backup running back instead of a backup wide receiver (3rd) and a third string tight end (5th). Although a good free agent running back signing could easily fill this void.

    My grade C+

edit: Steelers plan on moving Chickillo from DE to OLB and Walton from DT to DE

      Green Bay Packers

1.30 Damarious Randall – Nickel/slot corner, can move to safety if needed. Packers have a glaring need at DB, and while I liked a couple other CBs that were still on the board more, Randall’s awfully good and has seen a lot of pro-style offenses in his college career.
2.30 Quinten Rollins – Sam Shields, version 2. Great athlete, limited DB experience, good hands. He’ll start as a dime back, I suspect, and as his technique improves, move up the rotation.
3.30 Ty Montgomery – Ugh, I just don’t know about this one. Very strong and fast, though not tall. Great acceleration. Could be a very good return guy. But his route running and hands are awful. Sure, the Packers can afford a project at WR right now, but I’d sure have liked to see them go get one of the decent DL options that were still on the board.
4.30 Jake Ryan – The Packers dispose of a Big 10 inside linebacker and go get another one to replace him. Most importantly, he’s a good tackler. A quality need pick, IMO.
5.11 Brett Hundley – Most interesting pick of the Packer draft, bar none. Athletic talent. Favre-like arrogance; though not the same arm strength. Clearly a multi-year project. I really wonder if Ted Thompson channeled his predecessor to trade up for this pick. Reminded me a lot of picks like Brunell and Brooks. Packers traded up with New England to get him, giving up their 7th rounder.
6.30 Aaron Ripkowski – Yeah, now that’s a Green Bay name if I’ve ever seen one. Would be a good potential H-back if the Packers used that system. As it is, he’ll back up Kuhn and play special teams if he makes the cut. I feel sorry for the guy if he costs Kuhn his job – that could get ugly around here.
6, Supplmental - Christian Ringo – Very interesting pick – he does not come from a 3-4 background, seems like a tweener, too small for DE in the 3-4, too big and slow for OLB. Does have good first-step quickness.
6, Supplemental - Kennard Backman – Nice wrap-up pick. Athletic TE with a basketball background. Ran a very good sub 4.7 40; rated out as an average blocker. Looks like a #3 TE and special teams specialist.
I'm just here for the baseball.

I know what you mean. One commentator called Da'Ron Brown a cheaper Ty Montgomery. 4 rounds cheaper. At least one ranking has the Pack dead last. Take heart, the Patriots were #31.

I did like the Rollins pick, while Hundley is your Million $ dice roll.

Thompson has been very good for a long time, so I'm just going to trust him on a couple of these.

            My team did well.

Perriman went in the 1st round
Geathers went to the Colts in the 4th
Senior LB & one of the best I've seen here, Terrance Plummer, signed as a UDFA with my favorite team

The one that really pisses me off is Jacoby Glenn going as a UDFA to the Bears. A redshirt sophomore who should have stayed but either got some horrific advice from someone or has another issue because nobody should leave school early unless they're a lock for the top 3 rounds.

Eh, maybe he doesn't like school or is bad at it. He doesn't grade out that good. According to NFL:

              ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Salty cornerback who plays with passion and intensity. Outstanding hands and effective playing the ball. When he's in position, makes it extremely difficult for receivers to make the catch. Has feel for deep routes and understands when to turn and run. Reliable wrap-up tackler who breaks down in space and sticks his face into the target. Showed improved understanding of off coverage and how to restrict throwing windows as 2014 season progressed.
WEAKNESSES Skinny and tight-hipped with limited athleticism. Stiff and upright in his labored backpedal. Feet aren't always under him. Loses his footing at times in transitioning forward from backpedal. Unable to click and close with instant burst. Waits to see quarterback throwing before making a hard close from off coverage. Opens hips early in press coverage. Lacks recovery quickness and athletic ability to close distance when he's fooled. Doesn't have natural feet and deep speed for consistent man coverage in space.
DRAFT PROJECTION Round 5 or 6
              NFL COMPARISON Shaun Prater
BOTTOM LINE Thin cornerback who can be a ballhawk when he's in position, but he might have issues sticking with NFL speed. Glenn loves to play and brings everything he's got on every snap. His instincts aren't great, but are serviceable. His ability to tackle with consistency and challenge receivers at the point of contact could earmark him for a spot with a Tampa-2

So far on paper this is the best draft the Bears have had in years. I am happy with it.

The Bears selected West Virginia receiver Kevin White with the seventh overall pick in the first round, followed by Florida State defensive tackle Eddie Goldman in Round 2, Oregon center Hroniss Grasu in Round 3, Michigan State running back Jeremy Langford in Round 4, Penn State safety Adrian Amos in Round 5 and TCU tackle Tayo Fabulujein Round 6.

I don't get the Langford pick unless they are really down on Carey, given their extensive needs on D, but other than that, the Bears did very well.

It's too bad. The Jags had a good looking draft for a change.

Dallas signing La'el Collins puts their haul in the ridiculous range, with three first round talents. It does not count as draft, exactly, but for practical purposes OMG. Interestingly, the actual 1st round pick is the least of the three talentwise. Obviously, they still have to get production from them.
