Fisk? I think he's a good fit for your team. Maybe you could have waited/gambled and went another direction this time, because even if you lose him, it's not like you are bereft of options with your strategy. The biggest flaw in most BA punts is focusing too much on specialized BA punt type players.

    • I just think I should have picked 1985 as my BY, but even I couldn't put up with a .238 BY BA. I think the 11 HRs and 10SB possibly would have served me better.

You are already 0.5 behind the nearest challenger in BA ... that ship has probably sailed

FWIW ... I'd have picked 1977 over 1985 ... HR and SB should be easy to come by for you. BY R and RBI not so much.

no way I'm batting .250 and everyone else has a career line to .750!

          • Eldiablo - Has taken a really interesting line ... a balanced team, across the board stat accumulation, 2 closers, strong emphasis on max value at mid-low end letters. I like the balanced approach in a multi draft, although it's certainly not a necessity. I suppose if I were to nitpick, I'd question drafting Rivera with Izzy already on board ... even though he was insane value when ElD picked him up (6th round). The Arky Vaughn pick is also questionable in a value sense, although it is a good flexibility pick. I'm not sure V has a tipping point in this draft, although that is negated slightly by the fact we only have 3 moderns (which will be an issue ... V's value is propped up by modern hitters). Overall ... will be a contender as usual ... plus there is a bit of gamble in there which I like. It's hard to win these without gambling a little bit. This is the most interesting team so far ... the bits I criticized could turn out to be huge strengths.

Hacko - Like Revo, early commitment to hitting, and after picking Bonds up early has been careful to manage his letters. Every pick was very good value. I wonder though if Hacko could find himself in a negative equity situation with some his value picks later on. He is clearly semi-punting career BA and looking to compete in BY ... which can be a tricky balance to maintain later in the draft, even with good letters in the bank. Since we don't know how a 9 person draft will shape out, it's just conjecture. That said, looking good now, and (like everyone else to be fair) could be a contender.

Feral - Seems like a really solid team so far, with a strong commitment to value and letter management. Feral seems not to pay a lot of attention to past draft positions, favouring team balance and his own rankings and evaluations instead. Having drafted next to him a few times, we seem to chase many of the same players, which is frustrating ... so I do take this into account when picking players, with an eye to later in the draft. Like ElD, has committed to 2 closers early which is somewhat surprising, especially given that saves should have diminished in value with only 9 drafters and with 11 pitching slots, low IP high ratio players can be more easily absorbed. Then again, those 2 closers are Eck and Hoffman which locks down huge numbers in saves, helps the ratios and the career counting stats. Eck's true value is that he is basically a bonus SP when the final calculations are done. Interesting that he's decided to pick all his deadballer hitter slots so early. He's obviously got great value from them, and banks the stats where he needs to, but I'm usually cautious about doing this as it could lead to flexibility issues and lost value later on ... like filling your 2 catcher slots early, then watching crazy value passing you by every round ... "what? no-one wants them"! ... and they laugh and flip the bird as you watch value slip through your fingers. Frankie Frisch is a favourite of mine ... I wasn't looking at him this time (yet), but not surprised to see Feral snap him up.

            • Johnnya - I'm just picking whatever comes along, no real strategy yet. Thought Walsh would work well with Walter Johnson, and provide some different options for later ... then decided to cash in some of those ratios on Gaylord Perry. Ott was a bit of a no-brainer ... although I wasn't that keen on him. Was also looking at Yount, but he created many of the same problems. Ott was a little more flexible in terms of team formatting, although not letters of course. The rest was just going with value and trying to make my players work well together while preserving sufficient flexibility. Probably not the best judge of my own team. Can't say I regret picking anyone, though I did think a lot about the Klein pick. It wasn't optimal value, but did fit well and gave me so many options for later (Simmons was a nice double-down on the Klein pick ... either digging the hole deeper or multiplying the value).

TS Garp - Garp has put a strong emphasis on QUIZY ... no doubt triggered by the Cy Young pick. Certainly an interesting strategy which could pay dividends later. It can be scary drafting this way, because your current score/position can seem really noncompetitive, but he's negated that by picking a well balance line-up so far ... also helps when 2 of the QUIZYs are Cy and Quis. It's another gambling type strategy, which I think could work very well. Another player goes for twin closers in the first few rounds ... that's 33% of the drafters. Kinda surprised by that. But I think each one has used a Quizy closer, and it's not a mistake to double-down on a strong position. It guarantees you don't lose value later on. How many times have we seen people pick an early closer, then end up dumping saves? ... value suicide. It's too early to say how the team will shape up, but TSG has as good a chance as anyone of competing strongly. Might be a bit worried about my speed situation with 2 deadball hitters picked, and only about 25-30% of a competitive saves total on board ... contrast that Slasher's 3 deadball hitters. Should be easy to work around, but might create flexibility issues, and lost value. Hard to say what a competitive total will with 2 extra hitting slots, 2 WC's and only 9 drafters ... but it won't be low.

Frae - For the most part Frae has delivered a strong 1-2 punch at the turn. I wasn't keen on the O'Rourke pick (not a bad pick, it's just his value drops in this format ... less catchers drafted, deadballer with no speed, like V's O doesn't have a discernible tipping point ... although the relative value is the same), but apart from that great value and combinations. On the pitching front Koufax and Hecker are probably not the best pairing ... very BY heavy, but Fingers with his t'weener stats helps a little. In terms of value ... great. In terms of flexibility ... could be tricky ... but should be manageable. Overall the hitting is stellar, and very good letter and position management into the bargain.

Everyone is drafting really well ... anyone can contend.

              • It sucks waiting for a pick ... looking and instantly knowing who you are going to pick ... then having to sit and wait again.

Was hoping that I'd get one of Mantle or Simmons. I made a tactical error in drafting Arky Vaughn. That always happens when I hold the draft up and make a rushed pick in the morning to compensate. I should have gone with Young and Mantle instead. C'est la vie.
I wasn't even thinking about Simmons ... he was just there. Surprised really. Revo PM'd me Musial or Simmons in round 6 ... and he perfectly fits the mold for a multi draft player. Saying that, he was good not great value. S is a super stacked all round letter this draft.

Yep, Simmons was at the top of my board after I chose Stan the Man.....but can't use too much candy this early, even with only 9 drafters, so I reluctantly passed on him.

Then how do I have only 12 BYH pts with 7 hitters, and 31 BYP pts with 1 pitcher?
