Holding out hope KS comes back and picks would be my bad guess.

Hope everything's OK with KS ... his comment seemed a little despondent.

              • How does multi + 1 scoring work? Looking at the old VD 6 scoring, the scores should be in the millions but they aren't for multi scoring, nor do they seem to be divided by any constant. Can anyone clue me in on how that works?

                • I'm fine. Definitely feeling discouraged the last couple days, but nothing more than that. And I guess I had felt some combination of hoping participating in VD would feel like a welcome distraction (which it did not, for me) and some sense of obligation that I should participate since I had the time to do so.

Focusing on work is hard enough right now without a season looming that I don't need to add a distraction during work hours, and after work hours, I want to engage more with my family and take advantage of the time we have together. Doing puzzles and watching movies together and stuff like that.

If I was pumped up about doing another VD, I would have done it anyway, but I just don't feel that way, and I don't really know why. Maybe I have too much imaginary baseball in my life right now?

If you take the log of the multiplicative scoring, it turns it back to a typical scale. I think that is what is probably being done in the spreadsheet/posts that you're seeing.

Just adds +1 to every scoring category. So if you win HR's you'll get 13 instead of 12, if you finish last you'll get 2 instead of 1.

Removes the punishing 1's. It makes a little bit of a difference.

I know the feeling ... really wasn't in the mood over the last few months either ... and was feeling guilty people were waiting on me.

Looking forward to it now though.

I get the plus 1 part, it is the multiplication part I don't get. If there are twenty categories and the score in each is multiplied, the total scores would be in the millions. Instead the scores are all a hundred and something. That's where I get lost.

I opened a spreadsheet and found the formula we were using:

                            =10*LOG(I2*J2*K2*L2*M2*N2*O2*P2*Q2*R2*S2*T2*U2*V2* W2*X2*Y2*Z2*AA2*AB2)

So, 10 times the log of the multiplicative score (where each category score has one added, as Johnny said). We did that to get the scores on a scale that we were more familiar with.

You can also rank by the multiplicative score itself, if you want. The order will be the same. But most people found the log version more easily interpretable.

Johnny deducts lot of points somewhat arbitrarily

                              • Well, I picked. I wanted to do something interesting and strategical, like not taking the obvious choice (he seems to always go top six) or taking the year 1920 for him, but none of it made sense, and I haven't finished my prep yet, so the stragedy will have to wait.
